Dec 8th arrivals/departures

Post by mrscaptainjay »

Just wanted to give a heads up to anyone that will be arriving in STT on Dec 8th. That is the day that the Oasis of Seas (largest cruise ship ever built) will be arriving on its inaugural cruise. There will be 5 cruise ships in that day and they are expecting 15,000 cruise ship passengers to be on island. They are asking locals to avoid Sub base, downtown and Havensight areas due to the traffic nightmare they are expecting. So if you are arriving to or departing from STT on Dec 8th, expect crazy traffic getting to your destination.

Here is the article in St. Thomas Source:

Whew! that's alot of people unloading in 2 areas. We were just at CB pier on a cruise in May and it's not a big area unless it's been enlarged since then. I can't even picture the Oasis making it into the channnel there.

Good luck to all who will be trying to get from point A to B that day.
No ticker anymore. Next vac will prob. be the Fl Keys.

That is great info. We barely made it to the airport before the one hour cutoff on our way home the other day. We left in plenty of time but the traffic was worse than I have ever seen.

The taxi driver was going insane also, the worst drive I have ever been on. Speeding like crazy and then honking behind every single person, even if they were stuck in traffic. He must have honked a hundred times. Really, the guy had a rage issue, kind of busted that "no worries" stereotype).

A most unpleasant experience and I was really wishing for Rachel.
