Glad you commented on that. We thought the same. We were going to stop in the new St John Bar but the "aroma" moved us on. Don't know if it is the lowlands, the dumpsters or what but it was a little offsetting.djmom wrote:Isn't it a little "aromatic" right around there??

Regarding the "aroma," I guess they figure that if it works for Skinny Legs it can work for them too?toes in the sand wrote:Glad you commented on that. We thought the same. Let us live so that when we come to die even the undertaker will be sorry.

Coral Bay Community Council has a copy of the plans on their website:

Seems pretty ambitious for Coral Bay and whatever happens will happen in "island time", but if it's done properly and provides needed services, it could be a positive thing.
But "done properly" is the key...

As someone who has drifted to coral bay for my villa choices over the past couple of years I definitely welcome some additional amenities as I am sure some of the Coral Bay residents do as well.
Lilly's was a GREAT addition as was that entire development at Cocolobo Plaza. I think it was done well and thoughtfully. However, the businesses there have struggled. Aqua Bistro and Lilly's seem to be doing reasonably well though even if the other retailers haven't.
Certainly with the new public housing (some of the nicest I have ever seen!) development nearing completion as well as continuing construction toward Salt Pond, people will need access to shopping without having to drive alllllthhhhheeeewaaaaaayyyyyy
to Cruz Bay.
Anyone who has read the history of STJ knows that CORAL bay was really the main hub of the island at one point and it seems that the pendulum is swinging back that direction. But folks are right, it has to be done thoughtfully.
I do also think that a theater is a welcome addition to the island. Right now if anyone on island (locals) want to see a movie they have to take the ferry to STT and even THAT is getting to be more expensive. I would assume that in addition to cultural activities at the theater that they would also show movies. Not a biggie if you're on vacation but certainly a welcome addition for the young people of STJ!
Hopefully they will proceed thoughtfully.
