Umbrella Drink Tour - 2009 / Maho and Hansen

Post by jayseadee »

Monday, November 9

Most of the mornings started out very slow with coffee (a special Ruth blend) and a simple breakfast on the porch in no rush to get anywhere.

Nice view to butter your toast by –
Image

or your crumpets and English muffins -
Image

The kitchen had everything; and sharp knives to cut through a pineapple.
Image

The porch was our favorite thing about Anchorage Aweigh. It was hard not letting villa gravity take over.

Image

We never tired of the view or the sounds. During the week, you could always find the “kids” on the playground.

Image

The sky was overcast, but no rain, so we headed out to Maho. I know you’ll laugh, but the air was quite cool.

Image

Don went for a snorkel, but didn’t find anything, except this big guy.
Image

The sun disappeared, so we moved on –
Image

and stopped at the smoothie stand.
Image

This was our first smoothie – do you believe it? Mine was mango and rasberry – yum!
Image

Back to the villa
Image

for a dip in the pool and sunset – Coral Bay style.
Image

We had dinner at Aqua Bistro (first time there, too). We had bisque and Grouper – both were excellent. Service was incredible.

In bed by 9pm – Coral Bay makes you lazy.

On Tuesday, I woke up to this –
Image

Then this –
Image

Another loungy (is that a word?) morning

Image

waiting for the sky to clear. Once it did, we were off to Hansen Bay and Miss Vies – another first.

Wow, this is such a beautiful beach.

Image

Could this be the stairway to heaven?
Image

Again, the snorkeling was a bit of a miss. Some nice coral, but not many fish.
Image
Image

We had a late lunch at Miss Vie’s; it was very busy. We shared conch fritters, garlic chicken and a coconut tart. Image

After lunch, we drove down to Sloop Jone’s for the first of many shopping expeditions.

Back to Anchorage Aweigh for some of this –
Image

and that –
Image

We decided to eat in and had breakfast for dinner – I call this Don’s egg and cheese bruschetta; with a side of Pina Colada – first villa blender drink!
Image

An uninvited guest arrived for dinner; he didn’t eat much.
Image

As the “city” lights came up; the villa lights went down.
Image

Tomorrow we sail with Breath; and monsoon's friends thunder and lightening come along.

Great trip report and pictures. You were treated to a rainbow--does it get any better?

Vie's does look beautiful. I know the forum loves it there but we haven't made it.

The donkeys, deer, goats, and iguanas are just so special on St. John. I loved the "kids" playing picture!

Vie's was a great beach with easy parking in her lot and chairs on the beach. The conch fritters were awesome, but the garlic chicken didn't win me over; maybe because she was out of the accompanying johnnycakes, but the substitute rice and beans were very good.

We saw a lot more deer than I expected.

Your pictures are great. I love the gecko picture.

I plan to visit Vie's beach also, for the first time in April. Always wanted to go there. Looks like it was beautiful weather that day.

Glad you like them.

And, yes, Mary Beth, I got a shirt and pillow cover from Sloop. I did chat with a woman who was originally from Boston; not sure if that was Barbara. I am going to run to Michaels today to pick up a pillow and will take some pics.
