Villa Questions - repairs while renting
It woul be good to know which mngmnt co., several years ago we had issues with a pool at a Destination STJ rental and we received a nice sum credited back to our charge card. Besause of that, I always recommend them and do not hesitate to book with them.
Obviously, the rental rate is commeasurste with the amenities - if those amenities are not usable then IMHO compensation is due.
Another thing to consider is the stress and hassle of dealing with the situation. It certainly puts a damper on a relaxing vaca!

We had a really tough time with a villa we rented on STT. I could go on and on with what was wrong and not kept up.
I contacted the Management Company after we got home and listed all the things that were wrong. They offered me 10% off on a return visit. From what I can understand, that is pretty normal and nothing out of the ordinary.
I tracked down the owner of the Villa directly and he was appalled at all the things that were wrong with his Villa.
He told me through emails that he was going to be doing major renovations on the Villa and that he would like me to get together with him when we went down about 6 mos later. It was unbelievable at the amount of work he did to the Villa.
He then offered us 1/2 off our next visit!! We took him up on it and the differences in those 2 visits to that Villa was amazing.
That's the way to do business!
So, at first I wouldn't have recommended that Villa to anybody. Now I can and be confident.

repair
do you recall who the A/C company was. we had a similar experience two years ago. a company from st.thomas came over to fix the problem, they forgot a part, had to go back to st.thomas come back the next day and forgot a tool. The management company called the local A/C repair company, i think Dr.Air or something like that and the problem was fixed in 2 hours.
We have had our share of maintenance issues.
When it has truly inconvenienced us and impacted our ability to enjoy our accomodations, I contacted the rental agency and was very clear as to just how it affected us. These included no electricity and no hot water.
Other things I just chalked up to bad luck. Like a hot tub that was broken for our entire visit.

Thank you ALL so much for your input and suggestions. I believe I will write a nice letter - I've been to St. John enough to know there truly is an "island time" aspect to just about everything! We did receive an initial 10% discount (back in April) because we had rented from the same villa mgmt company before. What actually bothered me the most was that the AC company showed up a day early and the villa was unlocked. No, I wasn't happy about the mess and the drywall, etc. dust and other stuff on our beds, but I'm pretty easy to get along with and after a couple of drinks
all was fine. I'll let you all know if I receive a reply! I think the AC company was Dr. Cool? They seemed ok and worked as quickly as possible. They did have to call in another specialist - who could help with the new units - they were Mitsubishi AC's.
Thanks again for all your help! Starting to plan the next visit - hopefully in March!
