Sun Tan Lotions-your favorites?

I can't remember if there's been a thread on this in a while-what's your favorite sun tan lotion? I'm starting to hit the local tanning bed so I don't burn when I'm on island. I usually only wear lotion (Banana Boat) on my face to stop from burning-do any of them really work to help you get a darker tan? I have to admit to liking the sunbronzed look and enjoy laying out in the sun....though I do realize the concerns. Thanks!

I just ordered Burn Out Clear and Clean because it is environmentally safe.

I love the smell of coconut sunblock but will have to do without.

Toni, good question! I tan before I go, too, to reduce burning. And I LOVE to lay out in the sun and have had two skin cancers because of it. I still do it, though, (stupid) and watch my skin carefully.
I read something somewhere, after this last trip, about sunscreens not being good for the coral. Does anyone know about that?

I use the spay on type Coppertone. It is sooooo easy to put on and it lasts. No manual labor. I usually put it on once in the morning and once after lunch and that is it.

I second Coppertone Sport (spray on, pump bottle).

Hard to find, but lasts much longer than the aerosol type bottle.

I don't know how old everybody is, but I'm from the days when you use to take baby oil and put in iodine. Anything that was greasy was the best! Lay out and get so dark that it didn't even look normal. Real light blonde with dark skin? Never again.

I like Copperton Sport too, but I definetly go for the 30 and still get burned.

I'm definetly looking into the environmentally safe sunblock now.

I've seen so many people in their 50s/60s who have skin cancer and it can get so nasty including cancer on the scalp that goes into your brain.

That was me Minde, but don't remember if it was here or other forum that this was talked about. It was being said that the chemicals from non-eco friendly lotions was harming the coral. From so many people being in the water & the lotion washing off them,was how it was explained. Wish I could remember where the posting was.

I like the Clinique spray on sunblock in spf 30. I also use bullfrog spf 30--the kind with the insect repellent in it, and off active which also has insect repellent. For face I use clinique cream spf 55. I try not to tan too much--especially on my face. Tanning gives you wrinkles.

I found a great product- I think it is Hawaiian Tropic or Banana Boat? that is an orange color gel and contains carrot oil. The best stuff I ever used. Unfortunately I only ever found it in Mexico and Dominican Republic. With our addiction to STJ, it is highly unlikely I am going back to either of those places.

Has anyone seen it in their area or in their travels?

I like the No-Ad stuff, 30 & 15, and the Clinique spray for my scalp, ears, and feet. I hate anything creamy or greasy on my face in the heat so I'm forever looking for something "better" for my face. Before our last trip I found a product by Bare Minerals - SPF 30 Natural Sunscreen. It is a powder in its own self contained applicator with a swivel up brush. It comes in colors but is not heavy or cakey. I got it in medium and loved it - it didn't slide off my face and I did not burn. Hubs (who hates any kind of sunscreen), actually used it on his face and shoulders and did not burn. Burn Out Clear and Clean is ok for the coral and that is why I am getting it. Also, because it works well for my face under makeup or alone. But it doesn't smell like coconut! Darn.

Connie: I feel so sorry for bald men. My great uncle doesn't have hair on the top of his head. He is in his late 80's and condition of his scalp is really bad. He has had skin cancer on his head--well, that is all I will say the rest you can imagine.

I feel so sorry for him. That was before the sun block days and imagine how much sun to tops of our heads get!!

we bought Mexitan products. Tropical Sands SPF30 and their face and body moisturizer. Eco friendly, no parabens. It worked really well. People asked, "Where's your tan?",when we got back. I took that as a good sign. It's funny we noticed a nice light brown tan setting in about five days after getting home. I like Mexitan products.
