Best beach for sunset?

Post by Armchair Traveler »

My hubs and I are morning people and I am embarrassed to say we have never stayed on the beach until sunset since we seem to be there at the crack of dawn. We are going down again in January and I would really like to make a point of being on the beach at least once at sunset. Which one is best for actually watching the sun set? Thanks!

in january the sun is still near winter solstice (southernmost position relative to earth). if you are wanting to see the big ball slip into the water on the horizon, forget north shore beaches since stj and stt will block the view. best views will be higher up at southwest corner of stj, plus choc hole, maybe great cruz bay beaches. if not too late in january can probably see from salt pond.

If you're on the beach, you'll be eaten alive by the sand fleas, AT least in apr and May. But dinner at Maho bay camp is accompanied by a beautiful sunset with no sand fleas

I will also vote for the Beach Bar. It's all their unobstructed. You might also want to check out Gallows Point Resort. Go a bit before dark and head down to the pool area and go onto the deck. They do have security after dark so a little early would work.

St.John Ruth has posted some pictures that make a pretty compelling case for Frank Bay...

My vote is from the Beach Bar too! Nothing like a perfect sunset with a rum beverage in hand
