Coral Bay sandwich stop - like Baked in the Sun

Post by tonyadams »

So, last time my wife and I were on St. John, we stayed near Cruz Bay and stopped by B.I.T.S. in the morning almost every day for sandwiches for our daily adventures. Is there anything similar in Coral Bay? The key would be that they would have to be open relatively early, 8am or such.

When we were ther in December, a new breakfast and lunch placed opened up in the Cocoloba Plaza (where Aqua Bistro is).

The owners name is Casper but I can't remember the name of the place :).

If you are standing looking at eh Aqua Bistro basr, the place is on your right up one level.

He did a great breakfast albeit very casual. he said he'd be doing bagged lunches for taking to the beach too. Check him out!

He seemed to be a really good kid and he was swamped for breakfast. Hopefully he's still there.

The place at Cocolobo is called Mosquito Bites and I hope it's still opened too....we were there in the first part of February. Casper was very helpful and accommodating.....he packed a picnic lunch for us on one of our beach days; I think we were on our way to Little Lameshur....ahhhhh :) ...mia

Not sure if he is packing sandwiches or not (have been 3 times for breakfast and wellll...whats the saying....3 times and your out.....soooo you get the idea) - personally I would buy bread from the Deli Grotto in Mongoose Junction when you are in town (the BEST bread I have had anywhere :) ) along with some of their chicken salad, curry chicken salad, tuna salad, or waldorf turkey salad along with some cheese maybe and you will have the BEST beach lunch ever :)

Thanks LysaC, Pia, and Mia. We'll probably end up checking out mosquito bites as well as deli grotto and baked in the sun. Our itinerary usually includes getting up early, having a bagel - picking up lunch to go - and then head out for the day to snorkel. Once we get tired, it's off to the bars for happy hour. Seems many people on this board have the same itinerary. I guess that's why we all love St. John.

One week to go!

tonyadams,
Pia is right about Deli Grotto....I don't know of any other place on the island that even comes close to the quality of their bread and sandwiches. We went to Mosquito Bites because we were staying in Coral Bay and it was convenient....mia

We went to Mosquite Bites in December for the best breakfast sandwiches.
