We're broadly bashing the whole sports culture of Philadelphia?

Can I join in?

I will any way.

what a bunch of malcontents. I get into this with my PA-based coworkers all the time. Listening to sports radio in Philly amuses me to no end.

They HATE the Eagles. I'm a Redskins fan. I'd give my left nut for the run the Eagles have had over the past 10 years.

They don't care about the Sixers

they like hockey?

They can't stand the Phillies. they finally won last year and I swear...they spent the day after the clincher complaining that Tampa had scored too many runs.

Nothing makes up for the fact that I'm in PA and away from home like 610 WIP and their cast of loonies.

Ahhh...that felt good!

But what you don't understand is that it's ok for Philadelphians to bash their own team but let an outsider do it and watch out!!

"Today has been one of the happiest days of my life. I want to do everything I can to help the Yankees win the World Series championship.” – Hideki Matsui on Jan. 14, 2003, the day he arrived from Japan.

“This is the best moment of my life” – Hideki Matsui after winning game 6 of the World Series.

He had waited longer than any current Yankees player for this moment, surviving the most worldwide media scrutiny and playing through some grueling injuries without a complaint. He is in the final year of his contract, and the Yankees have quietly made it clear that he is probably not in their plans for 2010. Matsui never once made it an issue.

The Yankees were always adding a flashier, more expensive toy each winter - Mike Mussina, Jason Giambi, Randy Johnson, etc. They always had another player making headlines for something, quite often something bad, during his years in the Bronx.

But here he was, in the biggest game the Yankees have played in six years, capping his own Yankee legacy when everyone in the city seemed focused on what this title meant to somebody else…this was redemption for Alex Rodriguez…this was one for the thumb for the “Core of Four”…this was a new beginning for a team now built around Mark Teixeira and CC Sabathia. Yada yada yada.

All of that is true. But, it was also validation for the last holdover from the big-spending, no-championship days of this franchise and now he has his ring.

Matsui did not take a curtain call after any of his hits, and looked like he didn’t notice the “MVP!” chants when he came to bat in the seventh. As he has for most of his 916 games as a Yankee, he showed all the outward emotions of a man waiting for an elevator.

Quiet. Consistent. Professional. Enduring. Too often overlooked. And now, seven years later, a champion. Good for him.

Very happy for Upper-deki! All you say is so true.

And if we can mention Giambi for a minute .. I know Tex was dreadful at the plate for the Post season but imagine JUST imagine Giambi making ANY of the plays Tex made all season long?

When guys go bad in the post season everyone forgets the regular season. We are not here without Tex's glove and Phil Hughes in the pen (even though he was also not good the last few weeks).

Lastly, I just want to say ...... I love a parade!!!!!!!! Sing it with me!!!!!!!!

Cool, Janet, we'll be on the lookout for you!
Keep an eye out for My Sweet Amy; do you still have the description of her?(I'm , aside from my undeniable good looks  , relatively average looking; tall, thin, balding...) but i do have a handprint tattoo on my chest, so if you see us on the beach, say hello!
Hope to see you, not long now...

Although it goes by the office we can't see the street from our floor. Sorry, you'd be stuck on the sidewalk with the rest of the masses.
