NYC airports doesn't have this security check but San Juan airport does, which impressed us alot.
Maybe more airports will do the same now, if don't want to hire people then use the scanning machines. But since the airlines want you to check & print your luggage on-line now, why not use the people who are losing their jobs cause of this, at the luggage carousels to check?

No ticker anymore. Next vac will prob. be the Fl Keys.
A warning about carry-on luggage and valuables –
We know a woman who had her jewelry stolen in the security line. She had it in a non-descript small bag (a little Vera Bradley make-up case) at the bottom of her carry-on.
Sometime between putting it on the belt and walking through the metal detector, an airport/TSA employee removed it from her carry-on.
She and her husband are experienced travelers and she said she kept her eyes on her bag as much as she could, as she always does.
When they got to the gate, she noticed the zipper on her bag was open just ever so slightly and she immediately checked and the little bag with the jewelry was gone.
They called the police (this was in Miami) and were told it happens all the time there.
She knows it was there prior to the line as they stopped just before security to organize themselves, double checking boarding passes, passports, money and such.
