It's a small world!
First I must apologize for missing the BB gathering on Sunday my lovely wife twisted her ankle and her knee swelled up like a grapefruit so we had to spend the last full day of our trip huddled around the hot tub tending to her knee, fortunately we had a hot tub!
Anyhow I would like to share a small story of a meeting we had with the lovely Spice Co. Ruth. It was our first time meeting Ruth in person, I had read many posts describing what a sweet person she was and after the meeting can certainly attest to that fact. Ruth it was our pleasure meeting you and as I said to you yesterday your grill rub is AWESOME! Now to the story when we first went in to the store to browse I recognized Ruth and extended a hello and introduced my wife and myself to her and we began to chat about forum stuff then I introduced her to a pair of "newbies" that we had brought to the island and at that point Ruth had this look on her face of kind of a disbelief and asked one of our newbie friends some questions and low and behold she had worked with him some 25 to 30 years ago. so they rekindled some old history and then I find out she is from a town next to the town my company is in. so to finish up this post it really is a small world. thanks again Ruth for the wonderful conversation and fantastic grill rub looking forward to using it again.

On our honeymoon, the waitress at Miss Lucy's was a friend and former college roommate of the daughter of someone my husband knows.
At Skinny's in '06, the waitress asked where we were from and says "do you know so and so?" We did and were amazed as our town has less than 5,000 residents. I don't remember how she was connected to our fellow townsperson.

Our first full day on island, we are hiking Leinster Bay/Johnny Horn, going up to the ruins. We see a guy with a Buffalo Bills shirt on - turns out he lives less than 1 mile from my house! Our camera had no battery so he took a photo of us and I'm supposed to see him at the local watering hole to get said photo! Wierd.

This really was fun and such a surprise.
I said "Hi" when cool breeze John introduced me to his newbie friends from halfway across the store but
I didn't get a close look at them. Then a few minutes later Paul was out of my sight in the store and he spoke. I went whipping around the corner and looked at him from two feet away and was astounded. He has a very deep, clear and distinctive voice and I recognized it when he spoke three words after at leat 25 years. It was amazing.
Paul and I worked together in Harvard Square at a restaurant called 33 Dunster Street during the period from 1979 to 1984 or so.
I hope Cindy's ankle is feeling better, cool breeze. See you next time. Bring Paul and Diann with you again. We could probably have more conversation when I'm not so stunned. Practically speechless, I was.

That's why practically all my t-shirts are from St. John or the BVIs and if I see someone wearing same, I give them a knowing nod. If they appreciate St. John, they have to have some redeeming quality, right?toni wrote:I love those kinds of stories! Madness-there's several people from wny on this forum-you might see more Bills shirts down there sometime
My wife mentioned to me the other day that practically all my t-shirts were either from a) specific beer, b) a bar or c) a vacation spot (which usually references a or b. I thought for a second and just nodded.
