Day Trip Suggestions for a Family

Post by islandjo2010 »

Hi everyone!
I am now thinking about a day trip for our family of 4 this summer...kids ages 10 & 13.
I know we want to go to the Baths and we would love to do some off island snorkeling. Are they any must-see spots for kids?
Any suggestions on what companys may be best suited for families with kids? I had read in a previous post that Limnos Charters was a good one to check-out...was hoping to have 2 or 3 to call on.
Thank you in advance for any help you can lend. :)

We went to the Baths, the Willie T, The Caves, and Booby Rock with Lion in Da Sun. It may have been our best day of vacation ever. You can read the trip report here.

Hi hoosierdaddy,
Thanks...what a great trip report and photos! I will add Lion in Da Sun to my list. It sure sounds like it was a nice trip for a family to take and a full day of fun! Also going keep the food spots in mind!
Thanks again!

Deinitely the Baths were a highlight for my kids (they were 9 and 11 when they went). By the time you end up spending $120/pp or so with a group, you can almost justify doing a private charter so you can spend however much time you want to at the Baths, Jost Van Dyke (my kids loved Soggy Dollar with the ring toss game, hammocks and beach dogs) and also Sandy Spit (they loved that little island).

We took Born to Rhumb and shared the charter with another family from the forum (holds 12 altogether). All in with gas & tip, we spent about $400 total. http://www.borntorhumb.com/

We also took a smaller charter this year for 6 total with Palm Tree Charters. Awesome!!http://www.palmtreecharters.com/

Our kids really liked Josh and Lion in Da Sun also. He will take you where you want to go. The first year we I told Josh where we wanted to go based on the forum reviews. The next year he was the boss and everything was a surprise.

I highly recommend!! It was probably our best vacation day ever also.

I haven't gone for day trips with the other companies--I am sure they are good also.

This may be a silly question but have been wondering are the Baths and Caves the same thing or two separate places. I have seen pictures of the Caves - I think and it looks like something we definetly want to do with our family too.

Hi all...thank you and Happy Halloween!!!

LandLockedBeachLover sounds like a great trip to Jost for kids besides the Baths. I had read about Born to Rhumb but wasn't sure how family friendly it was, seems like it was a good time for your kids, now I will add them to my list to call! I have also read that taking the ferry to Jost is an option if we decide to do 2 day trips and save a bit of money...I am going to check that out as well.

XOXO seconds Josh and Lion in Da Sun! I wonder if it is possible to fit the Baths, the Caves and Jost in 1 day? Maybe the best 3 for kids all in one?!!

Hawaii, my friend! I think the Baths and Caves are 2 separate places, but I may be totally wrong!!!

Thanks again everyone!

I second Captain Kevin from borntorhumb.com. He's such a nice guy and will include the kids in "piloting" his boat.

It's a fast boat and he'll take you where you want to go or just go with his suggestions.

I wouldn't go with anybody else.

Hi Connie and LandLockedBeachLover,
I checked the Born To Rhumb website, and unless we are able to get another family to go with us, it looks to costs quite a bit more than Lion In Da Sun.
Still doing a bit more research.
Thanks again,
Jo

Hi hoosierdaddy!
Thanks again! From your photos, I have noted that the Caves are on Norman Island. Looks like a place the kids would love to explore!
Take care,
Jo

Loved your trip report hoosier. So, did you send the picture of you wife to get thrown off Willie T's?

(:

Josh is really good and what he does. Born and Lion are both winners and you will be happy either way. Personally, I would not try to do all of what you are thinking of doing in one day. I know it is tempting. Ask your captain what he suggests. Really, you don't want to be rushed--really explore the places you go and save where you don't make it for next time. Just my opinion. . . . that's all.
