Thanks Hugo, that explains alot.

I do agree, I like it a whole lot better than vacation condos.

Oh my!
This opened up a big ol' can of worms.....sorry, I'd seen them advertised at great rental prices and was curious. Husband and I keep thinking we'll rent before buying someday.

Nobody answered my question . . .

Will they rent to anyone?
Or - are there special qualifications to rent them?
Just curious . . .

This makes me think there must be special requirements:
They are not being built to welcome new residents or tourists to the island but to help the island residents.

I did not understand either. Can anyone post a picture of the housing?

I had to dig for this. It's the only picture I have (taken last May). I didn't get a shot from ground-level.

Thanks CAGirl: yeah, they probably are a little too much. It almost seems like we are not going to win against "big business" and keep St. John from being just another Cancun. I guess we can be thankful that the National Park cannot be built on.

Although you cannot see it up close from that photo, it does not look too bad. It kind of just looks like a nice apartment complex. Nothing like the ones on St. Thomas.

Margo took that picture from Easy Breezes....When we were there in April they were still finishing the units but some were occupied. And there were many children playing outside on the road which is very steep. We had to stop for them to get out of the way.
We could here their voices up at Easy Breezes.
That being said I agree there's a need for this type of housing but also think there's too many units. With nothing around these kids are going to get bored very quickly and that worries me a bit.
