What is the name of the new apartment complex in Coral Bay? I've searched and cannot find. Thanks!

John they have been building them for about 18 months or so now and some families have now moved in - they are on the way to Miss Lucy's in Calabash Boom - 72 residences.

Stayed right above them at Easy Breezes...
"Low Income Housing" doesn't mean the same thing in STJ as it does in Philly. I heard the avg. rent is upwards of $1200/mo. or more...True Pia??

I had no idea this was going on. I was very serious about buying a house in the Coral Bay area in the near future and now have no idea what this is going to do. With the resources and public schools on St. John, I think this is huge mistake.

How is it a huge mistake to provide safe and affordable housing for the people of the island? They are not being built to welcome new residents or tourists to the island but to help the island residents.

This has been going on for quite some time, if you have been looking at a home in Coral Bay, I am very surprised that you did not know about it.

I disagree, I have no idea where it is heading and have no idea what the big deal is. Honestly. Was this discussed before and I missed it?

Ok, here where it leads: you can be against this for any number of different reasons, such as it being way bigger (72 units) than is suitable for this part of the island; such as its creating an instant urban situation in a remote area with no services; such as the green light given by the government on all kinds of building and environmental regulation infractions---all of these may be true, but you can be simply be labeled an elitist.
You can point out that the company is advertising heavily in the Daily News, so obviously there isn't exactly a huge demand.
You can point out that almost all of the people who rent here will not be St. Johnians--please don't equate skin color with place of origin. You can point out that it's a housing project, and we saw what those did in St. Thomas and St. Croix--they can be equated to breeding grounds for crime, especially when they're 9 tough miles from the police station and any activities for young people.
Do I like this better than if it was condos selling for $1.5 million? Yes, but not a hell of a lot more. Would I have been happy if they built 20 units here? Yes, and supportive, but the size was demanded by the developer so they can make a lot more money.
