Ron,
Pearl Harbor will blow you away.

My Mom and Dad served in WWII. She passed away on our flight to Hawaii and I received a note under our hotel room door that she had passed. I toured Pearl Harbor the next day with my, then, teenage girls. I didn't tell them that my Mom had passed until after the Pearl Harbor experience. We cried.

We then moved on to an unbelievable trip that she would of expected us to enjoy!

It's not all about the destination. It's about the journey. Being from Kansas it's either a long drive or flight to get anywhere.

My dad passed away in 1977 because injuries during the war. His sub was sunk by a Japanese destroyer during the battle of Leyte Gulf. The pressure inside the sub got up to 53 psi before they could finally surface.

Hopefully, visiting Pearl Harbor will help me deal with the disdain I have for the people that caused my dad's death. Let's just say, that country is not on my "bucket" list of places to visit.

I'm sorry if I've offended anyone.

Thanks to all who've responded so far; it's really interesting to read different perspectives.

We're leaning toward maybe a week on Antigua or Grenada if I can get my head wrapped around the flight times. I think I need to do more research into the flight schedules of the Caribbean airlines first....Might actually have to check with a travel agent on this one!

Ron-Pearl Harbor is incredibly moving. We toured the Bowfin when we were there too-until you get into one of those subs you have no idea how small the spaces were. Definitely not for the claustrophic. My dad was in the Philippines; not something he ever wanted to discuss very much. Best of luck to you in your trip to Hawaii.

Terry-that must have been an incredibly difficult vacation-sounds like you handled it as best as possible.
