A note on security

We had a small issue last week of a user gleaning some info from posts here on the forum and PMing some others with the details of their trips as well as some other info (I think I have this correct) gathered from the web. I believe we have resolved this issue and that the user was only acting with good intentions.

The security issue has been discussed here before: how much personal info to share, what names to use as your forum user name, the posting of travel dates, your "location" (while home or on island), etc.

What you choose to share here is up to your own personal comfort level, but do keep in mind that anything posted on the forum is probably available to anyone in the world, which is true for just about anything on any website.

In the future, if anyone feels the need to alert or alarm people of a security concern, please do it through me first.

It actually freaked me out enough to change our plans.
It might be foolish to be so trusting, I suppose.
I don't/won't live in fear, but I do agree that I should be a bit more careful.

as Anthony said, alot of the posters here won't have a clue who you are talking about. Long before most of their times...

It's sad that people have to be so careful of so many things in this technical age.

Have no idea what went on and don't want to, but Mahojim, am sorry if you were hurt or upset due to the incident. You are a regular here and so friendly. Shame on whoever harmed or used you.

Comparatively I'm one of the young ones here and I have a clear recollection of Rick Astley...almost everybody here is old enough to have memories from the late '80s

That is the practice of posting a video under the name of another popular video to trick people into watching it.
