Linne: The story stinks is exactly the right English expression.
All of the suspicious behavior by the father aside, does anyone think the kid could have gotten into the garage attic without help?

The entire thing has been uncomfortable to watch from the beginning. Isn't it illegal to intentionally mislead authorities?djmom wrote:Has anyone seen the barfing video? What parent would even answer one more question while their kid is puking on their lap...not to mention even blinking an eye or offering some sort of comfort?
We as parents spend so much time and energy teaching our kids the importance of not telling lies. And then you have people like this who enlist their children in such a charade.

And of course, I could go through the laundry list of controversies that would've gone uncovered if not for the "cables". Won't mention what those items might be, for fear of "hijacking" the thread.
Appreciate the restraint, since the topic here really is “news” like this Balloon Boy thing that is sensationalized and trumped up as a “developing story”, and NOT legitimate stuff of real concern or exposés that would have otherwise gone uncovered if not for the good work of the cable news outlets.
The stories they "uncover" is a whole ‘nother topic that would likely have their own slippery slope of alleged “apoliticalness” or “partisan-ness” and nobody intended to go there on this particular current events thread.

I could be way off base here, but as I was watching the Today Show this morning and the boy was asleep slumped up against his father, my first thought was that they gave him something to make him sleep so that he didn't make another potentially incriminating comment. He's not an infant, after all. Then, the next thing you know, he's vomiting. A reaction to some sort of medication, perhaps??
I agree. The whole thing is just way bizarre!

And the dad is really not that bright (understatement of the year). I mean, if you want to go on all the shows, just don't bring the kids with you, no? That way, there is little risk of the boy telling the truth, which is your enemy at this point.

This story is definitely fishy. I was watching the Today Show this morning during the puking incident, and couldn't believe the reaction (or non-reaction) of the parents. I also thought the Dad's reaction when they "found him" as odd and maybe a bit insincere....if I thought my child had been in a hot air balloon flying around and was possibly dead, I think my reaction to finding him safe would be quite emotional.
Sadly, it is probably true.
Sox, I was most uncomfortable when the father was trying to lie and just---not good at it.
What is the motive?? I don't get it?

The motive, IMO, is that he is a narcissist (the father). He craves the attention. Apparently, he has all these crazy videos on youtube as well.
