Doesn't anybody remember?

Post by Connie »

You never talk about politics or religion. This is usually with friends, friends you spend time with, that you can look at, that you know personally. Even at that, it gets nasty.

Come on people. Just let it go.

JMO, it's getting sooo old.

Yes, I remember. Which is why I'm having a difficult time understanding why JT, Lex, and Maggie started their threads. Clearly, Anthony asked us to please abstain from any political discourse. If you start a thread about how nice it was to see Mrs. Obama...well...Every Kenny Chesney thread eventually makes it way to...music.

Not to mention there are always the select few that throw in their .02 on how they dislike Kenny, that they think his music is sucky, that he has brought too much attention to the island and now the environment is in jeopardy...yada, yada, yada...

In all due respect Connie, and I really like you, but there is so much at stake here, that I think people should be able to express themselves on both sides. I don't see any reason to censor opinions, as long as we're civil. We're in a pickle right now, in this country, and the stakes are high. Why shut down civil discourse? I agree we should stop the back handed comments, like when Pete and his wife called me drunk because they didn't like what I had to say, at 1:00 a.m., while waiting for my daughter to get home. Yeah, I was emotional with worry, but I wasn't drunk. 17 year old girls will make you a bit crazy at times. That is my sin. I'm sorry if I appeared drunk. Girls are hard to raise.

I apologize for any back handed comment I ever made to anyone on this forum, but I stand by my beliefs, as I'm sure the rest of you do.

We have three teenage daughters. So, I guess we get to be three times as emotional.

Pete, take it easy. You have no idea what people are going through in their personal lives.

I don't understand the reference, but I'll defer to you on this and let it all be.

If you for one second think that I have any interest in starting a political thread about a president in a country that I don't live in and therefore have no saying in, you are way out of base.

I just wrote "It was fun to have seen her". Not she is nice, it was just fun to have seen her. It would have been fun to see the Queen of England, a famous actor or singer or an athlet also. It was just a fun thing.

I also specifically wrote that I didn't intend to start a political discussion. How much more clear could I be?

But now I know, and I won't start another thread about anything that could turn into a politics. Just trip reports and pictures from different travel destinations, underwater pictures maybe  and cats also maybe. Totally harmless.

Cyrpress Girl - I have been told that when you raise a boy, you have to worry about that boy. When you raise a girl, you have to worry about ALL the boys. Even though I do not have any kids, I feel for you right now.

I remember, Connie.
I have heard from at least twenty people that they don't bother posting anything at all here anymore, because no matter what the topic, people with their own agenda twist it into a discussion related to politics.
I think that stinks.

Soxfan, you cannot seriously mean that Maggy started
a political discourse? Please read her thread again and see, who started it!

I'm the "outsider", who tells that I like Obama, not Maggy. And I have decided that in the future, I will be very careful about what I write trying not to upset people, who don't like their president.

I really do not understand the accusations about going off topic or "hijacking" a thread. In everyday conversation topics will naturally glide off topic. This is perfectly natural. It isn't scandalist.

Did you know that having a "beware of dog" sign posted makes that person more liable if that dog attacks? The reasoning is that person was aware of the danger.

It appears to me that Maggie knew that a post about seeing the first lady could easily turn political---even it that wasn't Maggie's intent--because HELLO it is logical:
I also specifically wrote that I didn't intend to start a political discussion. How much more clear could I be?
I think that was a logical assumption, given that the First Lady IS a political figure, that the conversation would eventually come to politics. I don't think anyone should be "scolded" for hijacking a thread of going "off topic".

Political figure + natural conversation=politics.

Additionally, I think it is unfair for anyone to assume what the conversation is going to be about just because they said so.

Maggy and Linne,
I am very embarrassed  and saddened  by the behavior of some of my fellow citizens on this forum.
There used to be two who bothered me; I now realize that my calculations were vastly erroneous.
All of this is really disgusting. I am sorry.
