Aqua Bistro
Aqua Bistro
We are staying over on the Coral Bay side for our April 27 trip. We have a lot of favorites on that side and want to try Sweet Plantains for the first time. How's the food at Aqua Bistro? I remember JT liking it?

Rick, When they opened a couple years ago they had a chef named Red. He was from Chateau Bordeaux. The food was good. Red's gone. I really only ate at the bar once this last trip. It was okay. The bar is a nice setting, with good bartenders, and a fair amount of "local" flavor, especially at the end of the work day. We've never sat at one of the tables, only at the bar. I've read about slow service at the tables, but that happens everywhere in Coral Bay sometimes. So, though I can't give you a recent food report, I can say it's a great place to sit at the bar, have a couple of drinks, watch the harbor and road, and listen to the tall tales. Also, the restrooms are in good working order and clean, something that can't be said about a few other near by places.
When you find yourself in a hole.... quit digging.
We had lunch at Aqua Bistro one afternoon in February. Instead of ordering meals, we ordered a couple of appetizers and desserts and shared them. I can't remember what my husband ordered, coconut shrimp maybe, and my crab cake was lovely. I had some kind of tart for dessert and he had a cappucino pudding or something like that. The service was slow. We sat at a table and were the only people there until someone came and sat at the bar. However, we made a few trips to some of the surrounding shops and just enjoyed the breeze. We were on island time, after all.
Aqua Bistro's bar can get pretty busy with locals post-workday.
I've never had lunch there but dinner with hubby at one of the tables under the lights amongst the tropical plantings was quite lovely! The pork tenderloin was melt-in-your-mouth tender and the curried carrot soup is something I think about a lot

Hey, Rick. As always in Coral Bay, on any given day, you'll get different experiences, opinions. I'm never in a hurry on STJ, then again, except at fine restaurants, we always sit at the bar, as the service is better, the "scenery" more interesting.
Also, there is a very friendly place with Postal/Internet service next to Aqua Bistro called Keep Me Posted. Rae runs it along with her significant other ,George.
If you need any local info regarding just about anything, Rae and "Santa" George are great.

I'm with you - island time and culture is part of the attraction. We sit at the bar at Shipwreck Landing for dinner, which is how we met Donna, the bartender, and found out she was from our area. Good stories.
We'll definately check out Keep me Posted. We don't have Internet access in our villa in April and I'd like to do a mid-week precis. I won't be doing in construction work, so I'll have the time! I may get an elbow strain from 12 oz curls... Thanks for the tips.
Cheers, RickG

Rick,
We love Coral Bay and the whole Aqua Bistro scene. My husband enjoys hanging with the locals at the bar while daughter and I are off doing 'girl' things. Everytime we go, he is bit by the "Lets build our dream home here." bug.
and loves dishing with folks 'in the know' about land for sale, etc. Is this your first time staying in Coral Bay?....mia

We stayed at Maho Bay in 2004 and enjoyed the Coral Bay scene. We usually spend a couple of days over in the Coral Bay area when we are on island for the week. But, it's not always advisable to head over to Coral Bay from the West side after some serious happy hour action. I'm going to enjoy being on the Coral Bay side for another full week in April. It's rather more my personal pace. But, I'm usually herding a gang... not this time.

My wife and I stayed in CB last March and a wonderful lunch at Aqua Bistro. We enjoyed some nice Caribe beer while watching the sail boats. It is probably one of the nicest places to eat in CB in my humble opinion.
We are headed back to STJ in June and will be staying in CB again. We absolutely love it there.
P.S. Hey RickG..we are from Oakton, VA!

Strain from 12 oz. curls!!!!! You are cracking me up RickG That is hysterical. I want to try brunch there on our trip but can't get any info about what they serve and how it compares to Miss Lucy's. Anyone planning to try it out for brunch before May 4?I kept thinking Pia or Ruth would run over there and give it a try! HINY HINT ( whats a few bloodys and brunch to help out a friend!) I was wanting to know if it was the same ole' eggs bacon deal or something different as Miss Lucy's serves.
