alright, i'm having trouble deciding which underwater camera to purchase... and we don't have that much time left before our trip.

if you have experience with one (and i've spoken to a few of you already about this) please post what make/model/whatever camera you use. i've narrowed my choices down but i'm still hesitant. OH, and if you can post a link to the pics you've taken, that'd be badass.

I love my underwater setup. It is just a canon 800 with the matching canon housing. The two items cost under $300. I think I take pretty good underwater pictures. I use the camera on the underwater setting, and photoshop to pull the blue out of the photos. I only use the auto correct settings in photoshop, so you could probably get the same results with picasa (free), or elements (around $100).

I have a more expensive camera with a huge complicated housing, but I've only used it once underwater. I prefer the little Canon.

I pretty much do what Becky does w/ my Canon...each component under $300. I have a SD600 that I purchased the underwater housing for...it's small and easy to handle underwater. If you go to my flickr account in my signature look at Dec '08 St John pix. I followed directions for the housing to the 'T'... rinse the housing every night taking extreme measures to use the silicone on the seal, etc. and had no problems. I am very happy w/ the choice I made and will work on improving the quality of shooting underwater as this was my first experience.

I have used the Canon SD850IS with its underwater housing and the Canon D10 (no housing needed). They both take good photos for point-and-shoot cameras, in my opinion. However, the quality of the photos largely depends on the conditions of the water. If photos are taken in less than ideal conditions, you can use photo editing programs (like the ones liamsaunt suggested) to make them look more decent.

I have to say that the D10 will be my primary underwater camera from now on and the other one will be my back up - for a practical reason: it's just easier to care for the D10.
