Not to worry *Sunnie*! Your villa should have plenty of TP! But I would not count on any champagne & caviar in the fridge!!
Enjoy your vacation! That's our plan too!! :D
I've got 2 tickets to paradise~Pack your bags we'll leave tonight!

Ha! I had the same question the first time we rented a villa on STJ. We were used to rentals where nothing, and I mean nothing, was provided and your security desposit got docked if you left a single ketchup bottle behind.

We have experienced both ends of the spectrum on STJ. Some houses have the basics like tp and paper towels and maybe the odd spice to fully stocked kitchens with anything you could possibly need like ziploc bags, foil, laundry detergent and a pantry full of multiple replacements.

My first time renting a house was in St John and we got one that had the basic paper goods, as well as the assorted condiments, rolls of AL foil, etc. I always bring a small roll of saran wrap and foil with me just in case (My name is Rob and I'm a cooler person), and always replace and put the date on any other condiments we buy. Kinda a paying it forward thing. Maybe I don't buy mustard and salad dressing for the week, but I buy dryer sheets...

Then...I rented my first house in NC. We all drive down for 3+ hours, check into the house and notice...nothing...no TP, no PT, no paper goods. Needless to say, we emptied all the old Dunkin' Donuts napkins from the cars for the ladies to use while I ran out to buy supplies. and, as mentioned, they charge you up here if you leave ANYTHING in the house.

Ok, so I am not the only one who has experienced "the cupboards are bare" type of rental. Until you lived it, you can't imagine it.

We would visit a certain island several times a year for many years so I became conditioned to planning ahead.

The stuff you see on the ferry is simply amazing! These travellers would laugh at the idea of brining a mere cooler of food.

We used to rent a container (4' x 4' maybe) at the dock which we would fill with supplies and have at loaded on to the ferry.

Honestly, I think it was those experiences that make it so easy for me to plan take-along stuff for STJ.

After calculating how much tp was needed for a week, how much beer needed to be purchased, how many gallons of milk and so on, throwing a can of peanuts and some dry pasta mix into my suitcase is a breaze.

OMG. Where was it you went that you had to take absolutely everything? I want to know where it is so that I can plan NEVER to go there.

The only place that I had to plan exactly how much TP, and everything else for that matter, was when we have gone houseboating on Lake Powell.

Block Island.

You needed to supply everything, including linens. I am not joking about the house being empty. The rental agents were hardcore about nothing being left behind.

And you had to clean the house before you left!

That was my first intro to island life, renting a mid four figure house and being told to clean it, including using special wax on the dining room table, before we checked out.

(It was nearly impossible, back then, to get a cleaning service. There simply was no labor force to do that job)

Now, we haven't been back for about 4 years. Things may have changed a bit but I doubt too much.

I have since heard that one agency caused waves in the rental community by INCLUDING SHEETS AND TOWELS in the rental price. Wonder if it a trend?

And the trash situation was crazy. You had to take your trash to the transfer station. The cost was a couple bucks per bag.

The thing was, the transfer station was open odd hours, like 8am to 11 then 3 to 6:45 on MWF, noon to 2:15 TH but never on Saturday, which was the big change over day. They made it very hard to get rid of trash. The guys used to scale the fence if it was closed.

There were stores on the island but where one could get supplies but it was a total hassle to battle traffic, park and shelp groceries to the car, which is why we took as much as possible along.

We love the island and spent so much time visiting (our friends later bought a house there) but haven't visited since I was pregnant with our son.

Linens are a big thing in NC (at least in Emerald Isle) too. Some houses include them, others don't. those that do, don't actually include them...they have them delivered from the island's linens service. Someone drops a 790 lb sack of sheets, towels, etc on your stoop. You get to haul them up the 47,000 stairs that each house seems to have.

Sunnie-
I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised with whichever home you're renting.
Oh yeah, which home ARE you renting?
We'll be down 11/07-11/14, hope to see you!
