Google Earth fun, plus looking for villa comments

Post by Beesmom »

Here's a fun game if you are villa hunting or just simply bored: bring up Google Earth, and going by pictures and descriptions of villas on the web mark the locations of various villas (and other places) on St. John.

Having said that, my husband and I are planning a trip in May next year and here's my shortlist: If anybody had any comments about the villas below I'd love to hear them. I have read what reviews I could find here and on Trip Advisor.

Rainbow Beach
Dream Come True
Sea Cay
Calypso del Sol
Leeward Villa
Idyllic
Time Out
Eaglesnest
Villa Belvedere

We're leaning towards Leeward villa because we stayed there for a few days in 2002 because of water pump problems in the villa we rented. My husband fell madly in love with the place (me, I'd like to try something new but not dead set against Leeward).

Also: as I was playing my Google map game, it looks to me as if Sea Cay is the villa next door to Leeward. Can anyone out there confirm?

Forgot to add that once you go to the link above, you have to click on the google earth file to see the map!

Hi Beesmom---I was glad to read you enjoyed Leeward a few years back---we've rented it for our trip in January/February. We have looked at a lot of the same houses you mentioned but haven't stayed at any of them. I know Rick G. stayed in Eaglesnest a year or two back and photos.Great view from here.MaryBeth stayed at Calypso del Sol recently and also posted some photos. A new house down the hill from Leeward is Villa Anansi---you might take a look at that one, rented by Caterd To. Also, around the hill from Villa Belvedere is a new house---Sopra Mare---might be worth a look. Happy villa hunting!

Thinks, Jim: Looking forward to what you think of Leeward. I hope the owners have kept it up (from what I've read they have).

Northerngal: Do you have Google Earth installed on your computer? Once that's done just go to the FILE ->Open... menu and find the .kmz file(s) you've downloaded. It's not a map file in itself - it's more of an overlay.

Sweet...glad ya'll are using the kmz files I had fun making them and they include inputs and help from many-many people on this forum!

I love Google Earth have only used the free version and have used it for years...lots of fun if you have high speed internet.
You can do searches in the google earth community and find cool stuff...there is a great kmz villa file for SXM...all kinds of stuff.

Those punk billionaires got something right at the right time....hahaha...
