Worried about bringing 10month old - help...
We've done it and absolutely recommend it. Is it more work? OH YEAH. Is it totally different than a vacaton w/out kids or with older kids? DEFINITELY. Is it worth it? 1000% yes. My kids are different people because of their gypsy mother.
Having a grandparent on board who will help out makes a huge difference. We took our youngest at 10 months with gramma and it was great. We took him w/o at 19 months and it was a lot tougher! He was just so much more mobile and a lot more to keep up with but it was still a great trip.

Mosquitos
We have found a great thing for our grandson... Off clip ons. You put a cartridge in the clip on fan ,clip it to the baby carier, and the repellent blows out away from the child keeping mosquitos away. We live in Panama City and have a real bug problem, and these really work. I plan to take some for us next time we go.

My son was born here and I started traveling with him when he was 2 months old. We started hitting the beach when he was about 6 weeks old. He's 8 now, so let me try and think back on some of the things/places that worked best.
For the plane, I used to have him drink while taking off so that his ears wouldn't get uncomfortable. Also brought a package of foam ear plugs to give to the people around us in case he had a meltdown.
The backpack carrier. He pretty much lived in it until he was 2 1/2. I walked everywhere with him and this island is not really set up to accommodate a stroller.
Bugs, the best thing to keep them away is being covered. At the beach, you can get a little rash guard and it will help keep the sun off and the bugs away. At night I always had long sleeved and long pants pjs. He never got to hot (just be sure they are 100% cotton). If you end up having a problem with the bugs, Chelsea Drug has several NON DEET products and Nest (across the way from the drug store) usually has Bert's Bees non DEET lotion. I used to put that in my guy's hair and it worked pretty well for keeping the bugs away.
Hawksnest beach has been our "typical" beach since my guy was little. It's convenient and there tend to be a lot of kids there. Maho is also a great choice since it is very shallow and calm. It's just further away from where I live (Gifft Hill) so I don't go there often.
Beach stuff. You don't need much. You can get beach toys at the drug store. I had a float that I would stick my guy in so that I could go in the water and swim. I would just hold on the float and kick around. We both enjoyed that very much.
I have to throw in a word about sunscreen. Make sure that the kids always have it on. Even if you are just going to be walking around town. It only takes about 10 minutes to get a burn. I've seen people who get a burn on the ferry ride over and that is not a good way to start off your vacation! CVS has a nice product, Zinc Oxide, SPF 50, that is very effective. You can get it online if you can't find it in the store.
You are going to have a great time and so will the kids!

I agree, travelling with a 10 month old is ALOT easier than a 2 year old. We bought a baby tent called a PeaPod for Emma and took it down with us. It is this cool little tent thing that folds up to nothing. Emma would sleep in it at night and we took it to the beach as a place to get her our of the bugs and sun. (We got it from the One Step Beyond catalog). I agree with PAGirl, just mashing up tablefood is an easy solution if you feel comfortable with it.
Another helpful item is a dvd player. Emma has this fish dvd call Sea Tunes and she has been mesmerized by it since she was about 6 months old. It was a lifesaver when we went to Yellowstone last year.
We have made 4 trips to STJ. (9 weeks, 6 months, 21 months and 2 years) and there hasn't been any real problems except for our last trip home...of course she was starting to get a cold and cutting 2 molars which caused her to meltdown on the plane. I would have used her dvd player except Emma broke it as we were packing to come home. You will have a great time!!!!!
