As Augie said, it DEPENDS on where you're staying & what kind of dining you are looking for... That said, there are so many wonderful restaurants - but my favorite one is Rhumb Lines (google it and read their menu). It has fantastic food, great drinks (best Bushwhacker I've ever had) - and is relaxed, quaint, charming & romantic - oh, and the staff is super friendly
.
Other favorite restaurants: for authentic Caribbean fare I love Sweet Plantains (menu online)& Miss Lucy's; for all around good seafood, etc. the Lime Inn is very good (menu online); & a little more refined & upscale I love Zozo's (menu online). The Banana Deck's food is nothing unusual (think Fridays or Applebees)- but is always very good- and the prices quite reasonable... and I especially love the atmosphere up high among the trees... with the cute little geckos here & there - don't worry - they eat bugs

Thanks for all the info everyone! We are staying right above Fish Bay but we have a car and aren't opposed to exploring anywhere. We were thinking one nice upscale night out then a few fun, laid back spots.
How about any lunch spots?
On another note were are gonna be there for halloween...should we get dressed up, and where is the spot to go to?!

In March our best evening meals were at Sweet Plantains, Shipwreck Landing and Cafe Roma and Uncle Joe's Bar-B-Q. Worst was at Morgan's Mango (always a favorite until this trip. Best lunches at Skinny Legs and Sun Dog Cafe.
In June our best meals were at La Plancha Del Mar, Shipwreck Landing and Cafe Roma and Uncle Joe's Bar-B-Q.

Our very favorite is Shipwreck in Coral Bay. Very casual, open air and great food. We usually snorkel at Lameshure or Salt Pond until we are starving, then go to Shipwreck for a leisurely late lunch. Their fish specials have always been excellent, and their homemade key lime pie is great.
Our next favorite (in Cruz Bay) is Sogos for authentic West Indian food. Very small, local type place with wonderful food. Try the shrimp creole (my favorite) or the curried goat (hubby's fav). You get several side dishes so its a very filling meal. When we stay near Cruz Bay, we get it carry-out and take it up to eat on our deck.
Love the view and food at The Balcony in Wharfside Village. Their seafood specials have always been good. Only been there for a late lunch after shopping in Cruz Bay.
Lime Inn had excellent food too.

Our favorites:
Carry out places: Candi's BBQ, Surly Cantina (Mexican)
Moderately priced: Beach Bar (menu online), High Tide (right on the water by the ferry dock), Banana Deck (always great food, wonderful setting), Sogo's (do not miss this place!).
Upper end: Nothing on island right now that we can recommend from recent personal experience.

Missing St. John. As always.

I am so happy to be reading Sogo's recommendations! We have been going for years, it is my daughters favorite restaurant and mine. I like the simple atmosphere, the veggies are wonderful and over the years we have tried almost everything.
Super nice owners too.

La Plancha on the second level of the Marketplace is newer and fantastic. They do lunch and dinner. They have a $5 small plate happy hour Mon-Fri from 5-7.
Was there the other day and the guys told me they are doing a big Halloween party with Happy Fish (same level of the Marketplace and another favorite of mine). They are doing it in the courtyard with music, food, and a costume contest. Should be a BLAST!

Have a great trip - here's a few we've enjoyed in the past
carry out lunch - deli grotto (mongoose), baked in the sun(marketplace)
bar food - beach bar, cafe roma (for pizza)
dinners - Cafe Roma, Lime Inn, Banana Deck
For that special night - Asolare (book for sunset; ask for a table by the rail).
We'll be in Coral Bay this year and will be sampling Shipwreck, Aqua Bistro among others.
