What would you do?
What would you do?
Hi,
I just booked our flights for Jan 7th thru the 18th. I got a pretty good deal under $1300 for nonstops both ways from Boston. This time we will be taking our 4 year old son.(Can't wait to teach him to snorkel). I have not booked a villa yet but it seems that there are alot available. I am not partial to one area over another because our son will be with us so I think we will mostly cook dinner at the villa/apartment. Trying to keep it inexpensive so I kind of want to see what last minute deals I can get. Should I try to negotiate a deal now or wait? What would you do?
Haven't told my hubby yet.. I was thinking of giving him the 2010 STJ calendar in his stocking at Christmas and have him open it up to January. Boy will he be surprised:)

Congratulations on booking part of your trip. I wish I had a trip planned
I like to research places and plan ahead, plus we want certain features in our villa, so we are probably more picky than some. So I would research, then book the "perfect place". However, since travel is down, and if you are not that picky about where you will stay, its probably a good idea to wait and see if you can find a deal. I have heard that early Jan can be a slow time for the Caribbean, so there may be deals to be had.

I tried to wait before booking our villa for November in hopes of getting a really good deal.
However, I couldn't wait and booked it last Feb/March. I got a good deal anyway.
I went back a few weeks ago to look at some of the other places I had bookmarked and noticed most of them were booked and had I waited, I would have been disappointed. Like Bill, there are certain amenities that we really like.
Why not make a short list and see what kind of deal you can get now - maybe if a villa is pretty wide open they will give you a "last minute" deal now.
And congrats for getting the planning going.

What a nice gift for your hubby! I've done that for mine too, nothing as big as STJ,mostly within driving distance ones. But he always likes getting them and of course,I get a vac. out of it too.
I'm not a gambler, and like to have everything set well ahead of time, so I couldn't wait till the last min. for anything ! Have read here that most owners will negoiate pricing if asked, so like others said, make a short list and go for it. All they can do is say no.
Good luck and enjoy.

No ticker anymore. Next vac will prob. be the Fl Keys.
I think I would book now, but ask if you can get a two person rate since your child is so young. If you are dealing with the owner, I think there is a good chance of getting a yes answer if it isn't a huge villa.
PS love the stocking idea. I sure would love that. NED-ARE YOU LISTENING???
He never knows what to get me....
