Mayaguez, Puerto Rico

Post by darkanddietwithlime »

Does anyone have any information on Mayaguez Puerto Rico? My husband and I are here now. We arrived yesterday. He is working today but we have Friday and Saturday to ourselves. A friend of ours back home spent some time here last winter and gave us the names of a few places to go but no one here at the hotel seems to know of them, except one. I did find some info on one place called the Rum Shack and the Flamboyan. The other places are: The Spot: On the beach, delicious food, more upscale menu but still casual. Villa Cofresi: drinks made in coconut shells, right on the beach. Kaplush: great roof deck, kind of a drive. By the way, we are staying at The Holiday Inn Tropical Casino in Mayaguez. Thanks

We stayed at that hotel many years ago. Mayaguez is a nice, mid-size town. When we were there we drove south on the coast and found several nice beaches. If you have a car take the main highway south to Cabo Rojo. There is a very nice (not STJ nice, but nice)beach where you can catch some rays and swim. You can also continue to the central part of the southern coast where the City of Ponce is located. It is not close, but, if you are on island time, it's a pretty, one-hour drive. Bring the camera.

If you go north, you can drive about an hour to Arecebo. There you will find the radio telescope. It is an interesting tour.
