Has anyone tried these mosquito lamps on St. John?

We've been using the lamp all summer, and it's been a very rainy, buggy summer, and it works well. We wonder if it'll work on St. John mosquitos (which are reportedly smarter than NY mosquitos).

Yes, I usually have 5 going at once (3 of the "Off" and 2 Thermacell) and it helps but does not get rid of them 100% - oh, and our deck is only 16x15 but with our yard (flowers/orchids etc) adjacent to it.

Hey Minde, there are no mosquitos smarter than our NY ones ! come on. ha.

Guess will buy more than a couple of these lamps, from what Pia says.

Pia, usually, how bad are they in April? Know it all depends on the amount of rain you get down there. And no-one knows what a mosquito will do on any given day. We're staying over in Coral Bay area, @ 1/2 mile up ("Just Enough" cottage) - opposite Bordeaux Mt. Have read that it's not as wet & damp on that side of island ?
No ticker anymore. Next vac will prob. be the Fl Keys.

Tipsy - I know where Just Enough is - it's next door to my house so we will be neighbours :) and you are correct it is not as damp or wet where "we" live as parts of Bordeaux are.

April can be hit or miss as far as the mossies are concerned, 10 days after rain is when we get them and, as you know we can't predict the weather so come on down all will be good :)

We've used the Thermacells and Off lanterns in DC (worse mosquitoes than STJ) and prefer the Thermacells. But, you can't bring the Thermacell butane fuel on the plane.

We had very good success with the clip-ons in June. They are limited, however, in their effectiveness. They set up a "cloud" of the repellant roughly 10 feet in diameter. When you are sitting still on a beach blanket or patio chair they work very well. We had a problem because Conrad thought we didn't need a rear window. The car would fill up with 'skeeters. If we put 2 clip-ons on the car when we were loading up in the AM, it would be clear by the time we were ready to leave. I placed one along side the BBQ and it protected me while ai cooked. We needed one refill and one set of batteries for each 3 to 4 days of use.

I guess it really does all depend on the body chemistry of each person - I have 2 "clip ons" and they were biting me all over :(

Hi Pia, How nice that we'll be neighbors,, will have to come by and introduce yourselves and have a soda w/us (we're not drinkers due to medications);-(.
Is the cottage as nice as it looks? We liked the openess of the rooms and the Caribbean decor & colors. And love the 2 decks, even if they end up narrow ones. Know it's only 5 yrs old and built/owned by a STT couple. So looking so forward to spending our vac in it.

You will just have to tell the native mossies (?)that some NYers are coming and for them to take a vacation for that week and to take their relatives the "no see-ums" w/ them. ;-) The iguanas are fine and all other animals there.

Am so excited and can't wait to come to your lovely island! Am sorry waited so long to come.

Doggone it. I bought the thermacell kind, actually. I thought the cells could go in checked luggage? I've emailed them now, to ask. Well I guess we can use the thermacell ones at home and bring the Off kind. I guess we'll bring 2.....thanks for the help, folks!
