Help! Squirrels Eating Hardi-plank!
Has anyone had this problem? We are in a new house three years this November and have noticed in the last two weeks (and hearing!) squirrels chewing on the bottom of planks around one side of backyard. What a bitch! We've spent so much money on this new home and these little tree rats are ruining our home! Any remedies? We've applied Deer Away and waiting to see the results.

split open a hot pepper and extract the seeds. mix them in some peanut butter and apply it to where they are chewing. they will not be back. works very well on log homes. hope this helps

Oh good lord, S/O also put out rat poison squares in delectable blue chunky blocks. We came home today and half of them have been carried off and most of them have been chewed on. My horrible fear is to walk out on the deck in the dark (I'm up at ungodly 3-4 am sometimes) and step on a writhing squirrel. They'd have to medicate me once I stopped screaming like a banshee! As S/O so eloquently states, "I want to see the M/F's die, they're nothing but rats with fuzzy tails!" The Deer-Off spray which has been lovingly sprayed all over the back of the house smells like putrified egg whites to squirrels but dries to a "non detectable smell by humans residue." They lied, you can smell it! My deck time has taken a hard hit since it's my wine time as soon as I get home. That's ok, as long as I have some hardi-plank left, I'll be a happy girl! Loved the idea about the pepper seeds in p-nut butter, tried a little on the house but it leaves a greasy spot. What shall we do in 7 years when it's time to sell, no cute crescent moon shaped marks in the siding. S/O says we'll file it down - can you see why I love his irrational behavior
If all else, fails S/O is on the prowl for an air rifle! Cow-a-bunga and AMF (thanks S/O and Bruce Willis for the translation!) This too, shall pass!

By any chance do you have a sprinkler system in your yard? Friends of ours in MN had a bad deer problem until they replaced their sprinkler heads with motion sensor sprinkler heads. The deer come up for a tasty bite and wap-wap-wap get smacked in the nose with a stream of water. Now their garden is great and no more deer.

Squirrels are not cute! Not at all. They hide chinese chestnuts in all my beds and I have to pull the sprouts. Time for evasive measures. Let's sing....
"I'm a lumberjack, and I'm okay.
I sleep all night and I work all day!" (nod, nod, wink, wink...)
