2005 was the best year of Pedro’s career. He started out 2006 5-1. After that he was basically a .500 pitcher for the Mets. I am glad he is able to pitch 5 inning for the Phils but I do not expect to see him much in the post season.
SJ...dude...love ya man...but dude...2005 Pedro's best year?

Pedro in 2005 with Mets:

15-8 W-L
2.82 ERA
4 Complete Games
1 Shutout
208 Strikeouts
8.6 Strikeouts per 9 innings

Pedro's AVERAGE season for the six seasons 1998-2003 (BOS):

101-28 W-L Total (16-4 Average)
2.26 ERA (Six season average)
242 Strikeouts (Six season average)
11.2 Strikeouts per 9 innings

Specific seasons that far and away trumped his 2005 season with the Mets:

1999 (Bos):

23-4 W-L
2.07 ERA
5 Complete Games
1 Shutout
313 Strikeouts (313!!)
13 Strikeouts per 9 innings

2000 (Bos):

18-6 W-L
1.74 ERA (Just filthy. In the AL no less!)
7 Complete Games
4 Shutouts
284 Strikeouts
11.8 Strikeouts per 9 innings
0.737 WHIP (walks+hits per inning pitched - this number was off the charts for a starting pitcher)

2002 (Bos):

20-4 W-L
2.26 ERA
239 Strikeouts
10.8 Strikeouts per 9 innings

I didn't even mention his 1997 season with Montreal, when he won a Cy Young.

Pedro's six years of dominance between 1998-2003 is rivaled only by that of Sandy Koufax in the entire history of baseball. Not to mention, he did it during and offensive era, in the American League.

We have not seen anything since those six years by Pedro, and I suspect we never will again.

His 2005 season is an afterthought.

As for JD Drew...I actually like him. He hit a HUGE Grand Slam in Game 6 vs. the Indians in the 2007 ALCS...He hit that HR off Francisco Carmona, who if you remember was pretty much unhittable that year. That HR got the Sox to Game 7 - and at that point the conclusion was a foregone conclusion. The Sox don't GET TO the 2007 WS without JD Drew.

Keith Foulke was the dominant closer in the American League in 2004 (other than the standard-bearer, Mariano).

I am going to add that Mets fans are the absolute worst behaved of all team fans at Fenway Park. Overall they are crude, loud, and boorish. I will never forget the time a Mets fan shoved and heckled my grandfather, a man recuperating from triple bypass surgery, who was 82 YEARS OLD at the time, just because he was wearing a Red Sox cap at batting practice. At Fenway Park!!! Yes, we got him kicked out, but who the heck shoves and heckles an 82 year old man??

I refuse to go to games when the Mets are in town anymore, which thankfully is hardly ever. Yuck.

At least the Yankee fans that come to Fenway are there because they are interested in the game and the history of the park, not because they want to be obnoxious and start fights.

(Nothing against you personally SJinNJ. You don't strike me as the boorish, obnoxious, grandfather-pushing type.)
It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.

Ah, Yankee Fans at Fenway...

May 2007 1st time the Yankees face Daiske at Fenway. My wife and kids and I are in right field roof box.

Prior to the first pitch, A pair of very loud, very drunk Yankees fans make their way from the Beer Stand to the next box, and proceed to drop F Bombs and go on for 3 innings about how Daiske is overpaid, and that the Yankees pitcher, Chase Wright, is from the minors, makes less money, and is better.

In the Third inning, Manny hits Home Run #1, next batter JD Drew 2nd HR, Yankee fans yell, "there is no way they will hit 3 in a row. If they hit 3 in a row, we are leaving," they say.

Boom! Mike Lowell hits 3rd homer in a row, and the Yankees fans are strangely silent, trying to figure how to save face.

The one guy that could still speak, says "there is no way they will hit 4 in a row. If Varitek hits a HR we are leaving."

Since apparantly there is a God, Varitek crushes HR #4 in a row off of Chase Wright, Yankee fans get thrown out for being drunk, Red Sox win, the Red Sox win.

SJ - as some who watched every Pedro start in that six year period, there is no way 2005 was his best year. And though the K was his calling card, he was always a pitcher first. As a baseball fan, you know what I mean by that. Around 2002 or so, I remember reading a report on a non-scientific poll of American League scouts about who had the best "stuff" in the AL. The shocker was that all of the scouts said Pedro had the best 4 seam fastball, the best 2 seam fastball, the best curveball, and the best changeup (his signature pitch) in the league.

I saw him blow people away at 97 MPH with a change at 83, and I saw him morph into a guy who had to spot 91 on the black, with a little less efective change due to the drop in velocity on the fastball.

The later Pedro was not nearly as good as the earlier Pedro. The Yankees killed him his last two years in the AL ( remember "who's your daddy" chabt?). But he was good enough to beat the Cardinals in St. Louis in Game 3 of the 04 WS. A harbinger of things to come for an aging pitcher in a far inferior offensive league.

No Terry, that was the Reds.

The last time the Rockies played the Red Sox, since they are in different Leagues, was in the Year 07, when they Swept the Rockies for their 2nd World Series Title of the Decade.

By the way, SJ, Pedro is 4-0 in 6 starts. Why can't the Mets get pitching like that?

When the Yankees discovered the burried uniform when they were building the new Stadium, the Mets should have looked a little harder at their new Sh**ti Field.

Burried just behind first base, in foul territory, is the uniform top of Bill Buckner.{don't tell anyone}

That is the only thing that could explain the bad Mojo, snake bitten, rotten luck of the Mets.

Personally, I have always had Mets players that I love. Willy Mays,Jerry Koosman, Cleon Jones, Bud Harrelson,Tom Terrific, Gary Carter, Mike Piazza.
I love to laugh about Doc and Straw! And I hated Keith Hernandez. But not Mookie.
