Bomba Shack - Full Moon Party

Post by chitownchick »

Am I obsessed? We're not going to be in St. Thomas until the end of January 2010 but my cental pre-occupation in life has been planning this vacation for my husband & me.

One of my road-blocks is the full moon party that I've been seeing in my online research - does it still exist? I'm trying to figure out how we get to & from Tortola from STT (we're staying at the Wyndham Sugar Bay). I told my husband that we may just have to camp out on the beach that night but those days were pretty much over for me after I sowed my wild oats long, long ago. So I'd rather not.

Any suggestions? Maybe I should change my focus altogether and figure out the all-day charter trip. Sorry if I seem a bit clueless, I'm just starting my research and it's overwhelming (but awesome!)

Thanks!!

Hi chitownchick! Welcome to the forum, you came to the right place! While I can't answer your question, I know that someone here has the answer for you!

And take comfort in knowing that everyone here is just as obsessed as you are! :D

To pull it off, you'd likely have to commit to staying on Tortola overnight. You'd taxi from Sugar Bay to Red Hook, and grab a ferry to West End. From there, cab over to Bomba's.

Afterwards, stay overnight at, say, Long Bay Resort (nice place!), then ferry back to Red Hook the next day.

So its a question of going through the aggravation of getting to Bomba's.

I went to the full moon party at Bomba's once and that was more than enough for me.
It was a bunch of really drunk (not that I have any issue with being drunk, ask Bug and Marcia)and people drinking mushroom tea, that tastes like crap, for the record.
Woman taking off their underwear, that I would have prefered never to see anywhere near naked and guys so drunk that they were enjoying it.

I am nowhere near a prude, but I found it annoying.

Bleuch, that sounds awful. And, for the record, your level of intoxication the night we met you was in direct proportion to the lack of sleep on your travel day + lack of food.

Back to the topic, there is a full moon party at Miss Lucy's on STJ, too. We've never been but it might be easier for you to get to and partake in than Bomba's. Just sayin'

Xislandgirl's discription sound pretty accurate. I'd advise that you don't waste you time. There's nothing more disgustiong than watching a bunch of people laugh and laugh about someone taking their underwear off. I can't think of anything else I'd rather NOT do. I have nothing against anyone getting drunk, mind you. I just don't enjoy watching someone who is falling-down drunk and that's what you'll find at Bomba's.

Awesome - thank you. We'll check out Miss Lucy's instead. The mushroom tea could be interesting but probably not worth the trip (no pun intended!)

I hate to be the one to throw more cold water but if you're looking for a party atmosphere, Miss Lucy's Full Moon Party is more of a pig-roast buffet than a party. Having been there once I don't need to go back. It was OK but just not a party. You'll have more of a party at Skinny Legs, Woody's, the Beach Bar or even the Gecko Bar at Mongoose Junction for that matter.

Are there any full moon parties on STT? Since that is where they are staying...

Miss Lucy's is a great place for a full moon - I agree - not really a "party", but great food and oh my what a gorgeous place to see a full moon! The atmosphere there is so relaxing and you can create your own "party"! Sunday Brunch there is also an excellent way to relax on a Sunday!

Thanks for the info - it really helps. We're up for island-hopping but we also want convenience if we're going to be getting wild that night. I'm trying to plan a trip to remember since it may be our last as just us two (hopefully!!).

I picked the Wyndham because it's close to Red Hook and we're not planning on renting a car.

Thanks!

It sounds like you will be hopping over to Tortola! :D Have an amazing time and remember, if you plan to take your underwear off, make sure it's the K-Mart stuff, not the Victoria's Secret stuff!

... agree that Miss Lucy's is an atmospheric place to experience the full moon - not as much a "party" place.

I don't have the personal experience of Bomba Shack full moon parties....

JohnM, have to tell you that I really like your quote -
