So far this year I feel like I live in VA! I travel the entire east coast (work) but have spent considerable time lately in Roanoke, Sterling, DC, & Baltimore. Funny, when Jorge mentioned Flat Rock, I was counting how many times I've eaten there this year.... maybe 5 or 6!

I hope your crew has a GREAT gathering. This is such a great idea, maybe we can round up a handful of Georgia folk for a summer lake trip. Ya'll all are welcome!

We live in Northern Va too, Burke to be exact. I was actually born in Ohio, went to OSU, met my husband of 30 years there and then ended up in Virginia about 25 years ago. I love the state but hate the congestion!!

Well, we are Virginians these days. My daughters were both born in Alexandria. We live in McLean, inside the beltway and two miles from the George H. Busch Center for Intelligence (CIA). You get used the black helicopters after a while. You also get used to seeing folks like Dick Cheney and Colin Powell in the grocery store.

I'm originally from Georgia, by way of Maryland (Go Terps! Oops). That Yankee influence up here has me talking funny, y'all! We are the Northern branch of en enormous family in Macon, GA. Christine is from Pittsburgh, even though she was born in Charleston and has never lived in Pittsburgh. It's genetic.

Ron, too bad, I'd buy you a beer. Reston is just down the road from us, but I'm in LA and Miami this week. There's a big selection of restaurants in the area. You can check out www.washingtonian.com for recommended restaurants in the area. Barbecue? Probably not as good as you could make yourself. But, lots of good Asian.

Bill and I had discussed getting together in the summer time out his way in the country. I'm up for some casual libations earlier as well. Kid friendly either way. My girls get fired up if they miss a party. We had 80 homebrewers, kids and all, at our house on Saturday for the annual St. Patrick's Day meeting and stout competition.

I drive right through McLean on 123 every day to get to the Pentagon. I grew up in DC but now my husband and I live in Ashburn (the land of a 1000 schoolbuses) which is near Leesburg. This June will be our 6th trip to St. John. We went for our honeymoon and have been going back ever since.

Wolfhound, that's quite a drive! I used to spend a lot of time in the big 5-sided building. My shoes last longer since I started doing commercial work. The trips are less "interesting" too.

Maybe next trip. I'm usually there once a quarter since it's our US HQ.

I'm actually brining two briskets from my cook last weekend at the request of my co-workers

One of the west coast guys is bringing Fat Tire beer and we're having our second annual Briskapalooza at one guys house in Leesburg.

My wife and I are in Falls Church. Nancy, I too am from Ohio and an OSU grad. Came here 9 years ago, met my wife and stayed. I'm not quite on 123 each day but do go over the chain bridge. I enjoy being stuck in the middle of chain bridge and looking out over the potomac. It takes me away for a few seconds before I'm brought back to commuting reality.

16 days until my commute consists of the winding roads of st. john.

Jo Ann...hey, I know where Bedford is! After my parents divorced, my dad moved to Roanoke. He lived on a 50 acre "farmette" just off of route 460 (Orange Ave.?) I used to spend summers there. In fact, when Marcia and I were dating in high school (which is story in itself), we used to take drives on the Blue Ridge Parkway. There was a place called the Peaks of Otter that we used to like. Is it still there?

Anyway, it is beautiful country.

Went to boarding school in New Market, VA. My sister graduated from James Madison. I left my heart in the Shenandoah Valley. Lots of close friends in those beautiful rolling hills.

Flip Flop, I was born in Newport News, but I spent the first six years of my life in Mathews, so I definitely know Urbanna. Moved back to NN, where I lived through high school, then went to Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, better known here as "Jorgeville." Settled in Roanoke, where I lived for almost 30 years before moving to NC in 2002. (Steph, maybe we were neighbors?) I assume you went to W&M, where you may have run into my twin brother, who graduated from there and still lives in Williamsburg.

VaGirl, my family used to take our vacations every year at Douthat State Park. A long way from there to St. John!

JoAnn, that's the Peaks of Otter, right? Been to the restaurant up there many times, including once during my brief single period where I met a woman who had 13 cats. *shiver* But that's for another forum.

It's hard getting used to being a Tar Heel after living all my life in Virginia. This state has a lot going for it too, but I do miss my Old Dominion...
