So our credit card just got charged...$83!!

The wall hanging was $53 and he said shipping would be $10-12...so he charged us $30 for shipping, which we never would have agreed to pay.

Grr. Looks like I'll be making another phone call.

I hear ya, we got bit on shipping from STJ one time too. (not from Smoothie Stand, someplace else) The shipping ended up costing more than the item.

that stinks (shipping).

I just have to know though. What date did it get charged so I can fine tune my island time equation?

Djmom I think the charge showed up about 1 month later.

I talked to the guy at the Smoothie Shack about the outrageous shipping charge. I'm not sure what type of shipping he used but he insured it and then charged me $5 for the box for a total of over $30 in shipping charges.

I'm frustrated because he quoted me $10-12 for shipping and he had my phone number so he could have called to make sure I was ok with the $30+ charge. Crappy customer service if you ask me. I talked him into taking off $5, but I still wouldn't have paid $25, especially since we're going to be back in November and I could have just gotten it then. If I were the business owner I would have been willing to not make money off the transaction to make the customer happy. Say he makes $20 off the wall hanging, he could have given me $20 toward the shipping and we'd both be even and he'd make a loyal customer happy.

Lesson learned: never ship anything from STJ again!

Teresa, I ship a load of stuff from STJ Spice every trip. That is one business I know will be fair with the shipping charge, and it usually arrives within a week. But they may be the exception, not the rule. I've never shipped from any other business.

I don't find the charge shocking (not sure of the size of the item). I am shipping something soon to St. John and it is going to be $15 for a fairly small box. And it won't be insured or anything.

Where he went wrong was saying it would be $10-$15. He obviously wasn't thinking or he doesn't do much shipping.

The flat-rate boxes are great deals. We shipped stuff down this past trip and the price was great.
