best wedding beach in St John???

Post by twotimes »

Hello everyone!

I am running off with some family to STJ this October for my wedding (its on Halloween actually!) and we will be staying at Vida De Mar.

I have Anne Marie Porter marrying us, and everyone including Anne Marie has suggested Trunk Bay for the sunsets etc, but she did mention that since it is such a popular beach we may not be the only ones there that day getting married and that maybe we might think of another option if we wanted it to be more intimate.

I have not been to the island in some time, about 5 years!, and can not recall what would be a great beach for a small ceremony/photos. I know Hawksnest is another wedding favorite, but not one that I would personally choose. I love Big Maho, but with the big mountain on the left side the photos may not be as nice as some others with a more open view of the sunset (like Trunk).

Any other suggestions? I have not been to many more than what is in the Maho area (Cinnamon, Trunk, Big Maho, Francis, Waterlemon), having stayed at the camps each time I had come out...

If I change my mind on location I need to let her know so that she can get the licensing underway...

Thoughts, suggestions, advice??

THANKS!! Can't wait to hear what you all thing :D

Congratulations on your wedding!

We were married on Trunk Bay at sunset by Anne Marie so Trunk gets my vote! Our wedding was in May so sunset was at 5:30 - there was NO ONE on the beach but us. We walked down to the left and it was hot but perfect!

Have an amazing time!

Have you thought about a morning wedding? The noseeums come out in force when the sun starts to go down so it might not be very pleasant. If you got to any beach by 9 am you'd pretty much have it to yourselves.

Francis faces due west.

Although, IMHO...go to Honeymoon for the wedding ceremony, then after the kissing and photos and sunset every one gets nekkid and goes swimming. :D
When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

Last October, one of our favorite memories was staying on Francis until the sunset. We were the only two people there and it was a gorgeous sunset with great sunsets. We didn't have any noseeums at that point. If someone had been getting married there that evening, it would have been perfect!!

Congrats and enjoy your planning!

It's unlikely that you would have Trunk to yourself, but the beach is so big you could set up away from others. People will respect your privacy (probably).

Gibney would be another good choice. You are likely to have this beach to yourself, and it is just so pretty. Here's a sunset photo from Gibney:

It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.

Another Gibney vote. It is my favorite place. Plus, I saw it set up for a wedding a couple of years ago and I thought it was just the perfect spot.

We got married on Truck at 9am and not a single person was on the beach.
We were on island for 1 week before the wedding date. Anne Marie Porter also performed the ceremony and we didn't pick the location until 1 or 2 days before the actual wedding date.

Congrats...Gibney is a great choice. But if one is getting married, how can Honeymoon Beach not be the perfect beach(our fav)...just for it's name sake.

And you'll love Vida e Mar

Congrats

My daughter has her heart set on Cinnamon - I think it will be too windy for that. Any thoughts on Cinnamon?

I love Gibney and at dusk........it is just beautiful.
All the N. shore beaches are.
I like Francis too
Trunk will have people but I think like liamsaunt said they will respect your space.

NC Sue, Cinnamon is one of our favorite "late day" beaches...countless times, we've gone there just before sunset to float in the waves and watch the sun set from the water -- the sun doesn't set over the ocean, but over the hills to the left. Bugs can get bad around sunset, but that's true of almost any beach on the island.
