New AA Checked Luggage Fees

Post by Pia »

Just thought you all might like to know..........

Pia

"American Airlines Inc. said Friday that it is raising its fees for checked luggage by $5 a bag each way for tickets bought Aug. 14 or afterward.
Its fee for the first checked bag goes from $15 to $20. The second checked bag, which now costs $25, will go to $30.

The changes apply to American, American Eagle and American Connection flights between U.S. airports, including territories such as Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

As before, elite members of its frequent-flier program can check up to two bags at no charge, as can passengers flying in first class or business class or who have purchased nondiscounted coach tickets."

I'll stick with Continental. Because I'm in their ff program, my 1st bag is free. :D

Thanks for the heads-up, Pia!

Delta recently announced their fees went up $5 as well. They are the same prices I think and same rules as AA. :(
All the more reason to pack lighter and try to fit everything in a carry on. Or at least try to anyway... :)

Just more reasons to pack light and use carry-on only! When my husband & I went to STT back in February we used carry-on for the first time and it was a breeze!!! I didn't think we could do it BUT WE DID! For years we have been talking about packing lighter and never did. We could have even packer lighter and will do so next February. I would recommend it to everyone if anyway possible. Not having to wait for the lugguage at the airport was a treat also! Now coming home was a little different because we had to check our booze but weren't charged for that; just having to wait for it at the luggage counter was bad enough.
