discount car rental comp st thomas

Post by papabou »

doing a last minute trip (10 days beg 7/27) and dependable on stt whom we usually rent from has nothing. budget has what we need but we quit using several trips ago due to "attitudes" but may be forced to return with a plastered smile.

folks at discount nice on phone and trying to arrange something. anyone had any experience with them?

thanks.

We've rented from them twice; both times were good experiences. However, that was 10 years ago. If you book online, you get a 12% discount. I like that feature.

Good luck with this!

One other thing, aren't you staying in STJ? Would you consider renting your car in STJ vs. STT? With the current barge situation, among other issues, I guess I would think about your options...

I just rented from them yesterday. What I really liked from the start was how friendly they were (and cheaper than dependable). I got a brand new 4 dr wrangler from them. It's a beauty.
They said for flats, we are on our own on st john, but anything else, they would assist.
I like them so far!

Discount is open until 10PM. Friends that have rented there got good service. Their first vehicle had bald tires - when they mentioned they were going to St. John they got a vehicle with new tires.

By the way, we got a Dependable reservation today without a problem. Also, heard that Budget fired the devil woman.

rick,

as always, sage advice and info.
must be our dates reason dependaable couldn't accommodate, 7/27 till 8/6. apparently lots of folks traveling to stt last of july, even with 3 daily nonstops out of atl to stt, seats are scarce most days. i'll pm you my mobile #, hope we will have a "sighting" the couple days our trips overlap.

are you doing a hallowen trip this year?

We've rented from discount probably 9 times and have always been satisified. A few years ago they changed owners and we noticed things changed somewhat. The people didn't seem as knowledgeable and the cars were not in as good shape and they had been in the past. The last car we rented had a dead inspection sticker and many of the gauges on the dashboard were lit up meaning the car needed service. We stopped using them thereafter. We might give them another try but now we just rent from either Hertz or Budget at the airport, although Budget sucks much of the time.

We rented from a wonderful car rental company on STT this past March. Amalie Car Rental. They are not located at the airport however, they are waiting there for you and your car is ready. Drop off is mint, they wait right at the door for you so you have curbside service. They even helped us load and unload our luggage and 3 kids!! Unbelievable. I cannot say enough good about them. Rick G- I am thrilled to hear the devil woman is no longer at Budget. We had such a horrible experience on our first trip to STJ with her.

We just returned this past Wed. from a week's stay in STT and rented from Discount. We had a Jeep Liberty - a little on the older side with 20000 miles, but worked out fine for 2 day trips to STJ.

Our non-stop flight there was delayed by 2 hrs. Luckily, I had called before we took off because we were due to arrive after 5:00 pm with the delay. I thought they were open later, but only until 5:00. They do have someone available by cell phone to still bring the car over, but it was an extra $20 to the driver.
