Book flights now or wait?

Post by Marcia (Mrs. Pete) »

If you found your perfect flights now, for a trip in April, at just shy of $400.00/per person, would you book them?

I have found ours. Delta, ORD to STT through ATL. There are many issues with booking so early (flight changes, price might go down or up, stability of the airline company, etc...).

What would you do?

All those are reasons to wait.....but a $400 price seems like a reason to go!
Just check your reservation every month or so to stay on top of changes!

We've already booked ours for late March early April. The price was right and while I waited for a friend to call back to tell her we were booking I watched the price go up slightly so we booked it immediately.

I think if you see a price that is below what you paid in previous years you should book now. We use Orbitz so if the price goes down on the same flight we should be reimbursed. We'll see.

I suppose there are arguments for waiting but personally I don't have the nerves for it. The only problems we've had in the past was a change of planes in NY on what should have been a direct flight to Boston. Otherwise any other changes have been slight almost imperceptible changes of arrival and departure times. That being said I've probably jinxed us for this year.

We usually travel in November on FF tickets which we book as soon as the dates open. We've had a ton of schedule changes, nothing awful, but I never pay attention as to how the price fluctuates.

We're traveling for the first time next April (to sail) and I have also seen good flighs under $400 and wondering the same as you - buy now or wait a few months.

Knowing me, I will probably buy them sooner rather than later.

When I booked last year for this year (the first day they opened my date to book!) I was nervous too. I kept my eye on the flight and rolled with the changes, but by the time our flight was wheels up, it had increased in price by nearly $1000!!! I say go for it now!

I just booked a couple of weeks ago for next March on Delta from GRR michigan through ATL. Got a good price too. With Northwest and Delta merging, by January all flights will become Delta flights. I think we'll be fine and not have too many changes. Just keep an eye on them.

A couple of weeks ago, Spirit had a flight from ATL for around $200. I didn't book for several reasons.

I think it's right around $300 now, but I don't think I'll ever see another $200 flight and probably should've gone for it. Of course, I do this every year -- sometimes it works in my favor, sometimes it doesn't, so I shouldn't be surprised anymore, really.

When we have to buy tickets, my rule is that if it's $400 or less and is "just right" I go for it. If it's not exactly what I want or is more than $400...I wait it out.

I say GRAB IT!

I would be in the "go for it" category...that is a pretty good price. It won't get much better, but it could get much worse.

I can only dream of $400 tickets. It's right at $1000 for us to fly from Montana to STT. Go for it!

Book now! That is a good price.

You can also register your flight with Yapta and if the price goes down they'll alert you to get a credit from the airline. John and I are going to Bermuda in a couple of weeks using flight credits we got by registering a group trip to Florida last December on Yapta.

Plus, once you have your flights locked in you can spend the next couple of months villa shopping, which is way more fun than flight hunting!

Villa shopping is done. We always do that first.
