Jost Thoughts..

Post by misweetp »

We have been to Jost a few times, and absolutly love it ! We have been there by catermerans from the westin, as well as other charterd trips with a bunch of people.

We are going to STJ next thursday for 10 days, and are planning on making a trip t Jost again. We would like to possibly go to the bubbly pool, sydneys peace and love, and maybe sandy spit.

We are a party of 8 and have 2 options :

1) Rent a boat with capt. pete (ocean runner ) with a guide for the day, and we can go where where we want

or

2) Take the ferry Jost, spend the day there and explore the island.

Any opinions/suggestions?

Not a fan of the ferry back and forth...never seems like enough time on Jost to do everything you want..

I'd rent a boat with a captain. I've done that several times and it's a blast and you can cover a lot of ground (water) on your own schedule. I've never done the ferry to Jost, but it seems a ferry ride is sort of just a way to get from point A to point B....not a fun time on the water.

I would rent a captn to, especially if you want to do he Bubbyly Pool and Syndney's.....
You could rent a jeep and navigate as well.
Jost is not too big and you would have about 5 hrs before you had to get back on the ferry

There's no $ sign on a peace of mind, this I've come to know

Having done both, with a group that size, I'd rent a boat. A lot more flexiblity and FUN!

You can't legally put eight people and a captain on an Ocean Runners boat. These are six pack boats, uninspected passenger vessels. By law they are limited to six paying passengers. I think Born to Rumb is one of the only inspected power boats running from St John that can take a party that size. You also have larger boats like Bad Kitty, New Horizons, Limnos, Breakaway etc. That pick up in St John as well as St Thomas. If you want to go with ocean runners you will need two boats and two captains.

PS I have rented from Ocean Runners several times and like the company I just thought you should know about the regs.

I can vouce for Captain Kevin and his boat Born to Rhumb. He's a great, easy going guy that will take you to where YOU want to go, on your terms. We had 12 people with us last time and it didn't feel cramped at all.

He always makes some really good painkillers

I don't know the cost of the larger boats, but being that the ferry is $60/person, you might as well charter something for $100-120/person. It would give you that much more time and flexibility to do what you want.

FYI, unless there is a north swell up the bubbly pool won't be worth the walk. It's a fine stop with lunch at Taboo, but don't expect much this time of the year.

I'd recommend Born to Rhumb as well.

I agree with Rick. The bubbly pool was nothing when we were there in July. I can say I've been there, but I don't have to go back.
