2 day countdown to STT!!! (and sunset sail question)

Post by corkyqh »

We are headed to STT in 2 days and can't wait!! :D It will be my husband and my 17 yo daughter and myself. Neither one of them have been to the Caribbean ever, but I have been to STT with my parents many years ago. What a great help this forum is for lots of info!

We plan on going over to STJ on 2 of the days since there is so much to do there as well (we have a rental vehicle). We're excited about the great snorkeling after seeing everyone's beautiful pictures!! :P

We are thinking about doing a sunset sail out of STT one of the evenings - has anyone gone on any sails with 'Oh Be Joyful Sailing'? When I was checking places out online, they seemed like a good one.

I haven't heard of that one but I know Scubadu is based out of STT and does sunset sails.

I would suggest knowing a bit of background info on the outfits you have read about and then finalizing a decision while on island. It helps to get some on island advice from whatever activites desk you have access to where you are staying. Outfits can be sold or changed ownership and that can greatly affect your experience compared to an online review/trip report. Thats what we usually do and its worked out well for us.

Thanks for the replies! We are renting a villa, so won't have an activities desk for guidance. We'll just see what we can find when we get there.

I will attempt a trip report after we return, but it is hard to do anything near as well written as many of the folks on here!

Ask your villa greeter whom they would recommend or there's that little information booth at the airport. I had talked to some outfits on STT about sails, so let me see if I can find the names of the ones that were recommended to me. Ultimately, we sailed on Breath out of Coral Bay on St. John, so that would not work for you.

OK, I went back and looked at my stuff from last year. I think the boat that we were going to go on was called Treazzure, but it was a little steep, especially with traveling over to STT from St. John. However, my friends went on New Horizons from STT two years ago and they are still raving about it. So, I would say to check them out -- they get great reviews.

Corkyqh, you enjoy yourself too. When we went to STT last year it was the first time my kids saw blue water. It was awesome to see their faces. Knowing what to expect this year is just as good, as you know!

Saturday soon come!!!!

We did a daysail out of STT a few years ago with Ike Witt charters (say it fast).

I'd be surprised if they don't do sunset sails as well.

(I just checked out their web site - http://www.ikewitt.com/ - and they do offer sunset sails)

I believe six is the max they'll take - when we went, there was one other couple on board, so we almost had a private charter for the standard price.

There are a LOT of operators that run these, so decide what is important to you - certain amenities, control over itinerary, size of boat, number of passengers, and find one that matches your needs!

Oh yeah - and have fun!
