Private Boat Charter to BVI and snorkeling spots

Post by Cochise86 »

Hello everyone and STJ fanatics!

We will be on St-John in August(11th to 21st) and would like to go with Palm Tree Charter Cruise for a day trip to BVI( The Baths) and other snorkeling spots like the Indians, Caves at Norman Island etc...

We are a couple in our late forties enjoying snorkeling as much as we can while on vacation.

We are looking to share the cost of this small boat(6 persons max.) for the day.

Thanks

Palm Tree Charters

Post by lovindislands »

My husband & I just came back from St. John on 6/18 & took our second cruise with John Brandi from Palm Tree Charters. Just wanted to say, even if you can't find someone to share the cost, it is definitely worth the splurge to take the boat for yourselves. We chartered the boat on our own this trip & it was a wonderful day - so relaxing. I understand the cost factor, so hopefully you'll find someone to chip in. If not, I'd bite the bullet & go anyway! Enjoy! 8)
Be as you are.

Just got back from a charter with Capt Brandi (yesterday). Although the day started out cloudy we got a little sun latter in the day. Despite the cloudy day we had a great time and were able to snorkel three different spots including the Indians and Caves and still visit the Baths! With lunch at Willie T's, it was a busy day and we are all still recovering. During the trip the good Capt provided lots of background information and sea stories that only he could tell. I would definately recommend Palm Tree Charters and that is the truth.

If I may ask, how much did it end up costing for the full boat rental and gas? I'm trying to determine if for 6 of us (4 adults, 2 kids) it would be better for us to do a charter or going with New Horizons II (which will be almost $800). Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Please check with Capt John directly on the price. I would be surprised if it is as much as you are quoting for New Horizons II. I can assure you that we use no one but Capt John. You also need to check and see if he can take 6. I know that is getting close to his limit.

Just want to say that we chartered with two other couples from the forum that we didn't know when we were on island in January and had a blast. Don't be afraid to jump in and join the party. All forumites are wonderful people -- otherwise they wouldn't be here, right?

from Capt John's web site: And his boat will hold 6 no problem! A must trip!!

What you’ll spend:
# Customs Fee of $25 (cash) per person for visits to the British Virgin Islands.

# $525 Charter Fee (cash or traveler’s check) for 1 to 6 passengers.

# Money for fuel (cash or credit card).
