Sheepish inquiry

Post by LandLockedBeachLover »

OK it's been a looonnnggg time (2 years??) since I've been on the forum. Two reasons/excuses. One - it is just too damn depressing to read about it when you don't have a trip planned :( . Two - I don't seem to have the "free" time at work now that I am doing the job of 3 people now. Gotta love this economy, but I guess I'd rather be the one having work overload rather than the two without a job. I think.

At any rate, I have a trip "planned" on Aug 5 - Aug 12 at the Marriott STT (using points). I say "planned" very loosely, since I have nothing planned in stone for the days (which is highly unusual) except for a private charter with Palm Charter on Mon 8/10 for my 40th birthday  . This is definitely the highlight, and since this is a trip without kids - - you can imagine what might be going on during this day trip (involves rum and lots of it). Which brings me to my first question. Can you still jump off the Willie T? I had heard "no" but surely someone can coerce them to let me have my birthday wish in my birthday suit!

Couple other questions for whomever is nice enough to help.
1) would like to take the ferry to Tortola to visit Cane Garden Bay - how far is the drive / approx cab fare from the ferry dock? Also which ferry (I think I need to go to West End)?
2) would like to do the Anaberg trail to Waterlemon (is this right - - going from memory). How far / approx cab fare from the ferry dock? Also where do we start the trail?
3) anything "new" that I should see in Cruz Bay or Charlotte Amalie (restaurants, bars, stores)? It's been two years...
4) Island Time Pub (old Sopchoppy's) still in Red Hook? Jonesing for a good greasy pizza.

I think that's all for the questions just now. Sorry again I've been a "fair weather" poster. I miss you all!

WELCOME BACK!

I can't answer any of your questions but can assure you your trip with Capt. Brandi will be awesome. Met him at the Beach Bar gathering and going out w/ him on the next trip is a must for me! So, I am jealous!

Welcome back LLBL! The forum's been rather tame without your "what a gal wouldn't do at a pool party to get to St John" stories.  (That was you, right?) Have a happy at Willie T's!

Steve - WOW! Great memory! Yep, that was me!
How do you think I'm getting a kid-free trip to STT/STJ for my 40th?? And, oddly enough, our 3rd annual pool party is set for Sat Jul 25th. Hard telling what kind of a trip I will get from that one! (pushing for a trip to Turks & Caicos soon, as that's one spot on my "bucket list" of sorts).

Still searching for an answer on the Willie T question of whether or not jumping is still allowed, sans suit.

LLBL, The Willie T has 'banned' jumping off the top - the white steps at the top are gone. BUT, don't you worry! They will not stop you if you want to do it. Sun4MySoul, my hubby and her crew did the infamous jump in our May trip. No t-shirts are awarded at this time but you can still have the thrill and the memories.

Happy 40th (I took that plunge last December)!

Thank you Nancy!! Didn't really want the t-shirt, but just want to jump (hopefully no pics, or at least ones I can share  )!

That was the most important question, but if any of you STJ experts can let me know about the best place to catch the Anaberg trail (is that right?) that heads to Waterlemon - - I would appreciate it greatly!

Island Time Pub is still in Red Hook and still has great pizza. Several new, or newly renovated restaurants in St. Thomas worth checking out: If you like mexican food, a new mexican place opened above Molly Malones (previously Whale of a tale), Northside Bistro, very good seafood, steak, etc., on the road down to Hull Bay (previously Northdrop), Thirteen, very good seafood with awesome daily specials, Crown Mt. Road in Dorathea (can't remember what it used to be), Pie Whole, Frechtown next to Bella Blu, great pizza and wonderful beer/wine selection. Then there are the favs in Frenchtown, Hook, Line & Sinker, Bella Blu, Craig and Sallys, Oceana.

Enjoy your trip to STT. :-)

Can't help with the Willi T question but I see it's already been answered. We were there a few years ago when jumping was allowed and I swear we never laughed so hard in our lives. Great memories. Anyway, we usually stay a couple of days at the Marriott in St. T (using points) before heading over to St J and we love the restaurant there. It's called Havana Blu. Had dinner there last year and it was still good. Also, I'll second MrsCaptJay on Oceana. Those are our two favorites. Enjoy!

Thx for the recommendation on Havana Blue! Since we are using Marriott points also for the whole week, I figure we can spend the money on dinners :D

Wish there were some forum folks on the islands during 8/5 - 8/12....I don't see anyone on the calendar. Always look forward to Sunday evening Beach Bar get-togethers. Anyone? Bueller?

I forgot about Havanna Blue. Very good restaurant and cool atmosphere. Their mojitos were great! :-)
