Do donkeys enjoy picnics?
One STJ guide book recommended that when you bring food to the beach, you should hang it in a tree while you're in the water, otherwise donkeys may rummage through it.
Now I'm curious, does anyone have any experience with this?

MrsCARolph,
A donkey once snuck under our table at Ansolare during a romantic interlude, but the waiter was kind enough to escort him to Uncle Joe's BBQ down the hill. Not to worry: you'll be fine. I second waterguy's zipped cooler recommendation. Take a looksee at "polarbearcoolers.com".

Oh my God! I have never laughed so hard as I did when my younger sister and I were swimming back from the cay at waterlemon when we heard all kinds of shrieking over by the beach.
When we got close enough in we could see a bunch of mongoose fighting over Cat's lunch. We just sat there in the water laughing our a$$e$ off. We were not close enough that we could have stopped them.
It was sooo funny! Sorry Cat, but you know it was hilarious!!!

We saw mongoosedem invading the lunches of some snorkelers at Francis. They are tricky! They can get into things you would not suspect. We never bring food to the beach so have not been their victims personally, but be forewarned!
I've never seen the donkeys rummaging through picnics. They seem content to just loll around in the shady parts of the beach, at least at Caneel.

It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.

Don't know about enjoying picnics, but they help with the groceries!
My husband ran down to Love City Market to pick up a few things, which turned into quite a lot of things. He paid for the purchases, took a few bags out to the jeep and put them on the seat. He went back into the store to grab the jugs of water, LEAVING THE CAR DOOR OPEN. He returned to find a donkey rummaging through the grocery bags. He ran off with our bunch of bananas! Too funny... I wish we had a picture.

Waterlemon is rampant with mongooses! There's a community in the brush behind the beach. You can hear them (and smell them too!) scurrying around back there while on the beach. I made the unfortunate mistake of commenting on the ermine scent they leave, and from then on the guys used "smells like mongoose" as the excuse for everything (if you catch my drift). So be careful over there
