Has anyone sailed on Breath??

I'm so late to the party. But I wanted to tell you that I loved Breath, and she is a great boat. Jared and his crew are awesome, and it truly was one of the best experiences of my last trip. We saw places on St. John we'd probably never be able to see any other way and learned a lot about the island. It was also very reasonably priced compared to other options that I looked at.

One thing I did not do but will be doing before the next trip is read Captain Peter's book (although if you don't get it before your trip there are tons of places to get it on St John -- Jared will even sell you a copy on your sail).

As for taking the boat out in the off-season for repairs and inspections, I am pretty sure they all do that, because that was one of the reasons we ended up on Breath last year. Another boat that was recommended to us was out of the water for annual maintenance.

BREATH IS TOTALLY IN BUSINESS. We are available for charter any day. I hope to haul out in early November, but we generally schedule that around the charters that we have booked in advance by then. Our Breath booth by the old pickles is simply a billboard, but I can see how it might look confusing. I will move that way from the building, thanks to everyones input. Can you imagine us needing 1800 sq ft to run a charter business? Maybe one day we will be as big of an operation as the hotel boats, but I doubt it, and kind of hope not. For now we will frolick in the "best kept secret" category. Peter does still sail occasionally, but unfortunately his health has prevented him from renewing his captains license. We have two captains currently; Colin, from Alaska, an incredible sailor and true friendly pirate, and myself, Jared. I have been driving Breath for the last 10 years, and brought Colin on about 8 years ago. We strive to create a true classic sailing experience, coupled with pristine snorkeling in places that most boats don't go to. Peter's book is entitled "Adrift on Sea of Blue Light" and is one of my all time favorite books about STJ and life folks lead when they liveaboard and embrace the island lifestyle.

If you sail Breath be sure to read it beforehand!

I'm late chiming in but another positive experience never hurts, right? We had a great day on Breath in January of '08. It was wonderful to see places on and around St. John that boats sailing out of Cruz Bay may not concentrate on getting to.

And I really can't say enough about the crew. We had a bit of a "mixed bag" of people on the boat and they handled it really well. There were a couple of new snorkelers and I think they were better for having had that day out on the water. The high newbie quotient made it sort of hard for me to relax at first, so it helps that when the stranger next to you asks "How come the trees on them mountains seem to be different colors?" there is someone there to hand you a drink and keep you from shouting "THOSE ARE CLOUDS, GENIUS!"

Anyway, a day on Breath is simply a great idea and I felt really lucky to spend time on such a special boat.
