Flights from Philly

Post by daffy2 »

Hi everybody,

We are travelling from Philadelphia, vacationing in St. John, leaving on November 10th for a week. US Air has a non-stop flight to St. Thomas for $435 roundtrip. Is that a good rate? Should I wait or book this flight? Has anyone gotten a better deal for this time of year?

Thanks,

I would buy at that price but then again, we just had a terrible experience flying thru San Juan that has basically altered my future travel planning.

for our Feb 2007 trip, we paid $520 or so a ticket from PHL to SJU to STT. Timing of the flights, both departure (we like to leave as early as possible) and arrival (again, as early as possible) factors heavily in our selection.

I could have paid as low as $325 on American but the times were awful, both directions, and we just couldn't make it work.

I don't know how likely it is that the flight will sell out during November. There are a few others on the board that fly (or not) from PHL that may have a better idea on price for the US Air direct flight.

I'd take it. We took the same flight in early Feb. and I bought those tickets the previous April for $502 per person.

It was an uneventful flight. We actually got there in 3 hrs 20 min. (after a one hr delay at the airport because the water lines on the aircraft had frozen. They said they forgot to turn on the heat early enough, duh.)

I am a HUGE fan of non-stop flights, especially on US Airways as it gives them less opportunity to lose your luggage! I think it's a decent deal, especially for non-stop.

Sounds like a good deal, I'd take it too. Although I've never gone to STT in November, the best we've done from NJ (EWR) direct to STT (on Continental though) was in mid-$400's. Plus a direct from Philly should mean a larger plane.

the US Air, non-stop is the only flight that we fly to
STJ. It is not that much more to fly non stop. I'd take it. anything is better than having to change planes in San Juan or Miami. I think that is what I am paying for our flight in 22 days. I booked a few months ago and the price has not gone any lower since then. But it has gone UP, and then back down to the same. Now lets just hope you ( and we) get off the ground on time!!!

I feel very fortunate that I was able to book a flight from New Haven, CT via Philadelphia and then to STT for Mar.26. The base price was $278 but then they added on $61 for taxes etc. But even at that it was a good rate. We paid slightly higher in the beginning of Feb. for the same flight.

I always fly out of Philly

$435. is the average price offered daily till the flight starts filling up, you should probably be able to get it for low 300's if you watch the fares, they usually have a sale in June.
Check out
http://www.airfarewatchdog.com/tabid/76 ... fault.aspx Sign up for their daily alerts on airfare sales

Go to the flight on the USAir site and check out the seat availablility, if it looks like it is filling up, book it fast.
Have you ever checked the Spirit flight out of Atlantic City? I am always tempted, but my husband is chairmans at USAir and we usually get upgraded. I would also ONLY fly the direct to St Thomas on USAir, we lose our luggage 4 times out of 5 when we have a connection on this  wonderful airline!

Thanks everyone.

You have been a big help! I think I'll keep an eye out for a little while. Spirit out of Atlantic City is also an option for us and I hadn't thought to check it.

I'll let you know how it turns out.

I would jump on it. Anything under $500 (to me) is a bargain :)
