We are home, our bags are not
We are home, our bags are not
Not a single bag that we checked made it home. Apparently two of them were never even scanned in St. Thomas (?). I wonder if I will get my $50 in checked bag fees back?
On the bright side, my package from St. John Spice was waiting for me when I got here! So, I might not have any clothes, but I have lots of spices! Oh, and we bought liquor at the duty free inside the terminal, so we have booze. Booze and spices, it's not all bad.

It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.

Ah well, if thet had to go and lose your bags, it's much better when you get home vs. when you got down to the islands. Starting your vacation without your gear, and screwing around on the phone for who knows how long, would really suck. And some of youse guys wonder about us carry on only zealots.
When you find yourself in a hole.... quit digging.
Welcome back, Becky. Urrrgggggh, sorry about your bags! I hate it when our bags get lost. US Airways has lost one so many times for us, usually when we connect in Philly. I'm sure the airline will get them back to you, but it is nervewracking just the same. Looking forward to your trip report
.
Going "home" again October 26th!

Best of luck with your bags, I hope it works out fine in the end...

Sherban, flying into Ft. lauderdale for a trip down the Keys, US Airways lost our luggage. It just wasn't us, it was about 5 other people. The sinking feeling you get when no other bags are on the carousel is horrible. Then, you have to go make a claim.sherban wrote:Best of luck with your bags, I hope it works out fine in the end...

We got to Florida with nothing. None of our clothes, personal items (which at that time you could just put them in your bags).
So, you're in Fort lauderdale and don't even have a bathing suit. Luckily I was wearing a black bra and black panties. Yep, i stripped. I didn't care at that time.
To make a long story short, we spend alot of time just looking for the basics and spent quite alot of money.
Our luggage was never found even though I had tags on the ouside and tags on the inside. Probably stolen.
Eventually the airline reimbursed us 2500.00 PP for everything that we had lost after we gave them an itemized list, but I will never have my favorite shorts, t shirts or shoes back.
It was like we were the Griswolds. We also had an accident, my husband got hooked on a fishing trip, I locked the keys in the trunk of the car and I also cut my foot in Key West that required 12 stiches.
Good luck!

I don't think that is unreasonable. Between the camera accessories I stupidly checked (not the cameras and memory cards themselves, thank goodness) and other electronic stuff I sent through, as well as 17 days worth of clothes, what's in our bags is worth more than that.Jo Ann - VA wrote:Connie - $2,500 reimbursment per PERSON for lost luggage? Wow.
This was totally my fault. We carried everything worth anything onto the plane coming down, but I just blanked and let the porter take all the bags, including the one with the camera stuff and other etc. at the airport coming home.
USAir called at 10 this morning and said that they had all of the bags and they were "on the way for home delivery." Not here yet. I did talk to them at 4 PM and they said they were still "on the way." I am hoping the bags arrive intact, but I'm not expecting that at this point. We'll see...

liamsaunt...I'm glad that they're on their way.
About the 2500 reimbursement. That's what they were liable for and at the time before 9/11 you could put anything into your bags and not worry about it.
We had to itemize everything, even down to toothbrushes, etc.
I know it sounds like alot, but we were more p*** then anything else. Just knowing that the bags were probably stolen really got to us considering we even had nametags inside the luggage.
Husband just got out the local Macy's ad, figured out how many shorts and tops we had, underwear, bathing suits, underwear and toiletries and did a pretty good job.
You really learn from that situation about what you put on as luggage and what you can take on as luggage.
