Drumbikers Trip Report, Day 5

Post by Drumbiker »

Thursday 5/28

A fantastic nights rest, aided by the full belly from ZoZo’s and a Cruzan 151 nightcap seems to have aided in the defeat of the sinus issue. Leftover Rib-Eye also makes for a heck of a breakfast. I’m sure the chef would cringe to see this beautiful hunk of beef reheated in a microwave!
The morning was overcast and we took our sweet time packing up the Jeep for the day. Stopped at Low Key for new snorkel gear and returned the other stuff to Hurricane Alley. Turned out to be a great move – no leaks with the new gear. I really think the flexible portion of the snorkels from Low Key made the difference.

Headed to Jambi Beach.

There were about 4 other people on this smaller beach, lots of small rocks in the sand and much debris from the surrounding trees in the water and in the sand. 6 people in a dinghy pulled on to the beach, beers in hand. We must have looked like their type of folks, as they came over to say hello. We shared a beer and found out they were nudists on a boating vacation. They even gave us their website – nudecrewz.net, seems like a fun group – if that’s your cup of tea. Two older ladies came by to snorkel and I gave them my review of the decent snorkeling along the rocky left side of the beach. They had just come from Francis Bay, where they had encountered many sea turtles. Hearing this set me off on the "Quest For Turtles", so we packed up and went to Francis. Once there, Julie was in the water for her longest snorkeling trip yet. Her claustrophobia and fear of marine life keeps her on the beach most of the time, so of course the encounter with the 3ft. Barracuda didn’t help. He was just a baby, and the second one we saw was even smaller, but it was enough to return Julie to her land loving ways and perch on the beach. I went back out from the center of the beach across the sea grass, out to the far right and back, but alas, not a turtle to be found. As I came out of the water the onslaught of no-see-ums and mosquitoes began and we made a hasty retreat to the Jeep.

We decided to continue east for our second trip to Coral Bay and beers at Skinny Legs. Honestly the whole place had kind of an “island trailer-trash” feel to it - but I mean that in a good way! Julie picked up a couple of sundresses at Mumbo-Jumbo (attached to Skinny Legs) for about 1/3 the cost of what she saw them for at Mongoose Jct.

All in all, Coral Bay was surprisingly small and made Cruz look like a big town. Once in the parking lot Julie, who would probably adopt every stray animal on the island if she were allowed, saw more Donkeys and a few goats. We took Centerline road back to Cruz Bay, stopping along the way at scenic overlooks for some more fantastic pictures.

Back at the villa, we cooked up some marinated pork chops for dinner, showered and headed into town to watch the Cavs / Magic game 6 at The Quiet Mon Pub. Not so quiet though. It seems that most of the native islanders are Orlando fans. Obnoxious Orlando fans, at that. But, we managed to "play nice" and take our loss like Only Cleveland sports fans can possible know how.

I've been to a couple of nude beaches, and checked out their site. Ever wonder why most people that are nudists are people you really don't wanna see naked anyway? :D

As for turtles......day 6 to come.....

Exactly my point! All of us without killer bodies should just keep our clothes on in public :-)
