Carefree Getaways, 5% service fee? - No, mystery solved

Post by PA Girl »

I am preparing the final draft of the 2010 villa selection spread sheet. (I have already picked it but am letting the group look at the also rans.)

I noticed Carefree Getaways adds a 5% service fee.

Is this something new?

Update - no, apparently just on one house. I was looking at so many, they were all blurring together.

Hi PA Girl -

As long as I have been a member of this forum (just a few years)Carefree has added the 5% charge.

Our group is also interested in villas in the VGE area - mainly because of the sunset views.

Can you tell me which villa "you" have decided on? Hopefully your group will choose the same one!

Thanks.

j.

I must have been thinking of another company - I think it starts with a "C" too.

PA Girl, I went backed and looked at the confirmation notice on the villa I rented from Carefree last year, and there's no indication of any service charge. The villa rent, tax, a $35 security waiver, and that's it. Looks like something new, and unwelcome. I'd be happy to send you a copy of the notice if it would help.

We don't plan on using Carefree (the place at the top of my list is handled by someone else) but for all the chatter about Caribbean Villa's 5% fee, I was surprised that I never heard about Carefree's fee.

I just booked a villa from Carefree Getaways this past week and I don't see a reference to the 5% fee on our bill.

I recall that they did charge a fee when we booked with them a couple of years ago. No other company we had dealt with had ever charged a fee. The greeter, by the way, could not have been less indifferent.

For example, Las Brisas shows a 5% fee right next to the price -

but other houses I checked don't show a fee, interesting...

Hmmm..I believe the primary rep/agent for Las Brisas Caribe is Suite St. John, which does charge a 5% fee on their houses, so that might explain this.

Could you please share it with me? We are working on a new villa review system - I have nearly 300 villas in the system already - I would like to cross check it with your list. Hopefully this will be on line by July 1 -

We used Carefree last year and we also had no fee. Our greeter was nice enough and the rest of the staff was awesome. Our experience with them was outstanding. I'm always happy to complain about something, but I was pleased with Carefree.
Still waiting to return to St. John!

Carefree was good for this year (no fee, great greater) and we are using them again in 2010. We have in fact already booked the same place - no worries.
