Which Airline/When Do We Buy Jan. 08 Travel to St. Thomas??
I used to fly into phily all the time if I wss driving from there to Lancaster never had a problem but if I was connecting to harrisburg or lancaster my luggage would not make it. Gave them to more shots the last to trips to STT and our luggage was lost both times this time they can't find it So I won't connect through phily again even if i can save money. I used to get about 100,000 miles a year and phily is the only place that I had problems every time I made a conection there.
Hi, and thanks a lot for all of the replies! My husband and I are actually flying down ahead of the group and then will be flying back with everyone on 1/10. In total, there will be 15 adults and one six month old infant. My nephew wants the fastest and least hassle way to get to St. Thomas from St. Louis. I checked into a group rate with Delta and the rate was $710 RT PP with a $60 deposit PP within the first 21 days and then the balance due within 45 days of booking since the 10th is still considered during a holiday period. They are also charging full price for the 2 1/2 year old girl and will be charging international taxes for the infant. Our group of 27 just recently went on a cruise from Ft. Lauderdale and I was the group leader. I booked our air through SWA Group Dept. We did not get a price break for having a group and was not able to check in on-line, which was kind of a pain. We also did not get to take advantage of the reduced fares when they dropped. The best thing about it was we were guaranteed to all be on the same flight. I am really confused on what I should do and when I should book the air for our group. I have heard you don't want to fly from San Juan to St. Thomas since they sometimes have to ship your luggage over to you later and we will be on St. John. I would not like that. I guess I will wait until August or Sept. to see if I can get a lower price. Thanks again for all of your replies! Mary
To Air is Human....
Let me sort of introduce myself...I'm catsman. My wife and I are going in June. We got antsie and got our air from Houston to St Thomas for $595. (Patience sometimes is not a virtue...LOL!) So we now have air. I hope we didn't "air" by buying this early.
I'll be talking more as we get closer. I have been reading from time to time but now I'm getting close. To Paridise in June!!!!!! catsman

kid info
I will chime in on the travelling with kid and the San Juan element.
Delta is the only airline that hs given us a discount for a child's seat.
When our son was just an infant (flying w/o a ticket), we were also charged taxes for him. I tried to debate this issue with the airline but was not successful. I think it may have something to do with landing fees/taxes.
We did not have a good experience going through San Juan in the beginning of March. I suspect a large group with kids could easily experience the same type of problems as we did.
Yes, sometimes the San Juan luggage connection is delayed. We experienced this a few years ago and I doubt it has improved.
