My basement is a surprising place

Post by pipanale »

When my neighbors' sewage isn't seeping in through the floor, the oddest looking bugs seem to get in.

I totally spazzed out the other night because this really weird-looking wasp/firefly think kept buzzing me. Fortunately, my wife was not home to see me running in circles waving my arms over my head as I tried to kill it.

Having stunned it, I pounded on it while it was on the floor.

When I was done, it took off and flew away.

I went back to my book. I figured that it deserved a chance to live.

LOL...I had a similar thing happen to me last week with an "earwig" (I am 100% SURE I messed the spelling up...anyway)...I was getting ready for work putting on my face and I kept turning the water on to flush it down the sink...after the 5th time this little bug crawled its way back UP the drain I figured he deserved to live...can't help but love that kind of determination!!!!

Pip - you need to download "Boris the Spider" by The Who and take the advice that John Entwhistle provides in that song: use your book to pound the bug! Shumppie would probably really like this song too. Mine did when she was little.

I had a bug in my bathtub last night. A big, scary one. I shooed it down the drain with pretty hot water, but I keep wondering if it might come back. I hope not, because it's pretty pissed off.

I don't have a basement. In fact, most people here in TN don't. That's also surprising because this might be the tornado capital of the world!

What log do you live under Lulu? I would venture to guess that from Nashville east to the Tri-Cities, (Bristol/Kingsport/Johnson City) there are numerous homes with basements. The terrain is comprised of mountains and hills so basement lots are the norm.

But we do have our share or more of tornado's, only because of the number of house trailers we have. We call'em tornado magnets and you usually see the occupants being interviewed on the News @ 6, just after a tornado.

If you want to be really scared by bugs...there's a conversation going on on another forum about centipedes in STX. There's a video of a centipede killing a mouse. I just couldn't watch it.

Now I'm freaked about them being in STT or STJ.

My only fear of bugs is the pinchy bugs. Couple years ago, I went go pee in our bathroom and one ended up in my toilet!!! I totally freaked. Sorry for being so blunt, but that's something I'll never forget. I was working out in the garden, sitting, picking weeds. Never again.

That reminds of some Twilight Zone thing about a guy who washes a tiny spider down the drain and it comes back out as this gargantuan thing that kills him..One day I need to tell you guys the story about the bug on the ceiling at our villa and Crash launching his dirty socks and underwear at it half-loaded...I almost peed my pants!! :D

Does it beat the thousands of bugs our poor friends woke up to find crawling on them last summer after it rained?

I could tell the story of the HUGE flying thing that I once found in our bathroom here. I hit it twice with a magazine. It then took off its glasses and asked me in an oh-so-polite tone to never do that again. that led me to call an exterminator at 11:00PM.

When they called me back the following morning, they led off by asking "New York or New Jersey?"

(I'm knocking on wood here.)

I don't get a lot of bugs in my house, although I know plenty of people who do. My cat did get fleas last year, because this Yankee didn't know that in Southern states you even have to give inside cats flea medicine. I fixed that pretty quickly. But the roaches, ants, etc., I've been lucky enough not to get them.

As for where I live, I live in Nashville on top of a big hill, so no basement for me. I would like a basement, because I would rather not sit in my downstairs bathroom with a blanket over my head during the tornados.

"It took off it's glasses" LMAO!! After the bug on the ceiling we found a huge dead cockroach (about 3" long) in a potted plant when it blew over during a gust of wind. So Crash took it and put it in our friends drain with it's head and antennae just peeking over the edge. She went to their room to take a shower and we hear the blood-curdling scream and she runs upstairs crying. Crash and I laughed until we cried! We're very sick people...
