First timers Trip report Day 3
First timers Trip report Day 3
Tuesday 5/26
Got up early again, these 6:15 sunrises in an environment with little shade and no A/C sure puts an end to any thought of “sleeping in”. We had a quick breakfast of toast and coffee at the Villa and headed to Hawksnest to scout for a wedding location. This was the place Ann Marie suggested, and we wanted to see it in the same lighting as our 8:30AM scheduled wedding time. It is the perfect beach; we decide to look no further.
We head back to Cruz Bay to catch the Red Hook ferry and then bus to Charlotte Amalie to pick up our wedding license. We had a little time to kill, which turned out to be quite expensive! A stop at Cardow Jewelers turned into a wedding band for me – even after months of saying I had no need for another ring. Julie also found some things that perked her interest, but frugality won in the end. What an amazing store though! It has to be the size of a football field, at least. In the end, we couldn’t get back on the ferry to St. John fast enough. The 5 lanes of traffic, lights, Home Depot, K-Mart, Burger King Etc. were just too much for us to handle. What a pity for those that visit the USVI and only see the port of St. Thomas.

We returned to Cruz Bay via the Charlotte Amalie Ferry, where we were followed by a hungry seagull...

........ and exchanged our bad snorkel gear at Hurricane Alley. The sinus infection was in full force by now, making me feel miserable. I kept up the best front I could and soldiered on, not wanting to let it interfere with my vacation. We went back to the Villa for lunch, showered and headed back to the Beach Bar for the Cavs game. We met several transplants and made friends with another wedding party. We’re still trying to figure out the significance of the potato photos? Cavs lose in overtime, and we’re up much too late on the eve of our morning wedding. Back at the Villa, after midnight and we both had a lousy nights sleep. Neither of us will ever admit to any amount of nervousness – we’ve been together for eight years! But, what else could explain us both tossing and turning all night when we both should have been exhausted and completely relaxed?
Next Post - Wedding Day!
