TOM TOM GPS question

Post by star2515 »

We are leaving in 13 days for our first visit. I was going to borrow my grandfathers TOM TOM gps. I won't be able to pick it up from him until the night before we leave. Does anyone know if the North American map package includes USVI? I can't ask him to check because it was a gift to him he's never used, and the TOMTOM website doesn't say for sure, just says all us states, canada and mexico.

When you get it -- put in 18'N lat and 64'W lon and if it doesn't come up with the info it probably isn't enabled for the VI .

We brought our Garmin Nuvi GPS 2 weeks ago and it did have usvi maps and directions but it got confused occasionally. STJ is notorious for lack of street names and numbers. I wouldn't rely on it to get you to where you want to go but as a backup.

If you have an iphone, you can use the maps feature and it will locate you and you can use it to get accurate maps. We used ours a lot while on STJ.

I have the XL 330 and it includes Puerto Rico but not the USVI. You can easily purchase & download the USVI maps from their website though.

honestly, you don't need a GPS on St. John, there are only a few roads, its very easy to navigate without one.

have fun!
