About "signatures"

Post by Lex »

I've noticed this before but it's really struck me again recently. Most people who include "signatures" seem to use a short phrase or slogan or motto that is generally cheery or clever or upbeat. They're often a nice addition but occasionally they can be jarring. If the content of the post is in regard to something sad or serious or tragic, the cheery "signature" at the end of it can sometimes seem like a bizarre juxtaposition. Once set up, the "signature" just automatically is included so folks probably don't think twice about it, but there are some posts where a funny message doesn't seem to fit.

I think you have too much time on your hands Lex.

I am on several internet boards and everyone has signatures and, not only have I never thought about it, I don't think I have ever heard it mentioned.

I have posted tragic news before and I can honetly tell you that I noticed the responses and not the signatures.

Lex - Signatures are like avatars... if I change my signature or avatar today, it will change on every single post I've ever made, if you cared to even go back that far! LOL! So, if I deleted my signature line for one post, then went and put it back on for the next post, the previous post will also now show the signature.

Therefore, unless you want to have no signature line at all, there is no way to alter it just for certain posts. Most posts are cheery, thus the sig is fine, but it's silly to delete a signature entirely so one can reply to the occasional somber thread.

You can uncheck the "attach Signature" box below the text box for each post.

And then leave it checked when you want your signature to appear.

Well, duh... I guess I've never paid attention to that! It could be very useful in a case such as Lex states.

Wow, Lex. Carrying the politically correct torch to the USVI forum.

Not saying this is good or bad...not judging...But man, some poeple just love to regulate.

No worries though...I have no doubt that there will be PLENTY of regulation placed on the "Internets" at some point over the next four years...Maybe shoot an email to the teleprompter about this?
